Shmup of the Month Club 2012
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (TRUXTON) (OP updated 1/1)
I..... am getting my ass kicked. Playing on MAME right now. I have to configure MAME to work with my arcade stick. Playing reversed on the keyboard sucks. I will be on the lookout for the genesis version and maybe play a few rounds on emu until I can pick it up.

Oh, shit. We're playing Truxton! Well, all right! Would have rather seen Truxton II, personally but this should be fun
I'm gonna start out with the Genesis port and move over to MAME after a few runs and see if I can spot any major differences...

About to play now. LET'S DO THIS. Would have liked to play Truxton II (or Batsugun...) myself, but I mean, c'mon, Truxton is the shit.

Again, I can't see why those who want to do Truxton II can'tbrunoafh wrote:About to play now. LET'S DO THIS. Would have liked to play Truxton II (or Batsugun...) myself, but I mean, c'mon, Truxton is the shit.
I will get some of that in -- but I have not played Truxton (I) in a bit -- gotta go before I get rusty !

(marks spot in thread, and i'm in - i'll have to read more about this later, but initial impressions look good).
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (TRUXTON) (OP updated 1/1)
I had the MD version (Tatsujin, a much cooler sounding name!), but not currently. I guess I'll be emulating it in some form. Probably just the MD/Genesis version since it's easier than the PC Engine version and I am a bit more partial towards home console conversions over arcade. I'm strange like that!
I can't really commit to finishing, because I am up to my @ss in stuff I would rather not deal with now but must (and it's ongoing for months+), but I'll try to plug away at it.

Having tried both, I think I actually prefer the pce port. The game feels smoother and the difficulty is much closer to the arcade.
Still will probably dabble in both throughout the month though.

Vhwat?! The PCE port was a lagging mess when I played it. The Genesis version is very smooth. As far as difficulty goes, the console versions have difficulty selections, and default is arcade difficulty. I thought.dunpeal2064 wrote:I actually prefer the pce port. Either way, just played the Gen port some, and yeah. It's as brutal as I remember. Gonna be a fun shmup month!

Huh, I dunno, I'm not getting to stage 3 yet, but Ive had no lag on the pce version.
To get near arcade difficulty in truxton on the genesis, you have to input a code that forces the game to start at loop 2. The settings don't seem to match the difficulty.
Not trying to knock the gen port though, its still bitchin.
What are the favorite weapons? Red is nice for that shield they added in the gen port (its just a wider vulcan in the pce port). Blue seems too unreliable for me.
