Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
I like the 3 thread idea. A place for everything and everything in its place.
Since this signature affects old posts, I'm leaving a message here in case anyone searches for my username. This account died in early 2013. I am no longer a fundamentalist.
Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
Pin/sticky the 3 threads in the same forum, problem solved. I also suggested making the last post in this thread, before it's locked, an explanation and linking the 3 threads. I also suggest that the first post in each of the 3 threads clearly define the thread's parameters.lwcook wrote:It's not confusing for you mods or people with 1000+ post counts that are on the forums all the time.
The problem is that it can get confusing for everyone else that comes here and posts casually, lurks, or (especially) newbies. While it might "de-clutter" things for the people that check the threads multiple times a day, it might put off new members and even casual posters from interacting with the forum because they just can't hop in and post their finds like they do now. And it's not as easy as posting Sega things in the Sega forum or Sony related posts in the Sony and Microsoft forum if you're not aware there are 3 separate find threads each with their own criteria.
I just think splitting things up will only serve veteran members and only make it more complicated to post for everyone else.
So there'll be three threads pinned, all right next to each other. Each thread will clearly explain it's purpose. THIS thread will have an explanation in its last post to explain what happen, for those that frequent this thread but might have missed this explosion.

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
Too much pinning is not good - people always just zoom past those anyways, the less of them the better, especially for newer users.
Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
I agree, if there's a dozen pinned topics, they don't stick out. But it's only 3 topics, hardly a lot. There are no other pinned topics in this section. And if you're zooming past the pinned topics, that's your problem. They're pinned for a reason.
Another idea... In addition to each thread's first post explaining the thread's criteria, it could also linked the other two threads. So if you're a newb that stumbles into "Finds of the Day" you can clearly see that there's another thread that you should be posting in.
So really, if you end up confused, it's because you didn't bother to read anything.

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
But this neglects something - most of us do not have the time to scour all threads, for me, I tend to "view your (my) posts" and unless I have a lot of time. I hit my pm's, view my posts, and get off. If I have more time - i'll hit new posts, but that is pretty rare. One of my favorite threads, is this one. One of my favorite posters, is CRT - yes, sometimes i'll pfft about things and think to myself, "ok, that's not a find." but the majority of the time - I find out something new and interesting and i've really come to appreciate the time, detail, and information he puts into his posts. I personally wouldn't find his posts if they were in some other random categories depending on the circumstances of the find.Hobie-wan wrote:Again, you didn't read what was posted. Posting about a game that is available at thousands of stores for the same price you bought it is not a find of the day. If you want to bring light to something you bought that you think doesn't get enough love, great. Post a review in the review section. If you want to post about everything you buy and not make a blog elsewhere, create your own blog thread here on the forum.CRTGAMER wrote:Part of the advantage of the Finds of the Day is discovering and sharing information and background stories of ANY game related item. a one stop source for seeing fresh posts of games old and new. Who is to say what is a valuable item in terms of cost or rarity, everyone has a different taste.
I could have just posted a boring list and prices that have no meaning. I think adding a story that has some meat and potatoes in it is worthwhile. Yes I do post in a blog style review with pics, anything less would be a disservice. Really, how many here even know the significance of the Zircon controller relation to the Channel F or the trivia such as it superseding the 2600 as the first cart based console. Good God enjoy the ride, instead of shooting it down.
That said, maybe see what others think? I'll post a style in whatever the Mods and Members limit me to. I hope that my posts help these Forums, not hinder. No, I will not post to a Blog Site, My heart is here on Racketboy.
If this thread needs to be altered (which to me this thread is in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" category) then I say leave it as is, create another single thread for extremely rare / extremely valuable / bought extremely below market. Sticky neither.

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
Pinned threads should be for site posting rules or site updates (things that have changed, charities the site is involved in, someone passing away, money needed for X, etc), basically things we need to know to navigate the site. A find of the day thread(s) doesn't fit that criteria. Folks start to zoom through sticky's when they are seen as subjective and not of necessity. If a thread is good and important enough, it will remain on page one without special treatment, like this one has done for a good long while.Ziggy587 wrote:I agree, if there's a dozen pinned topics, they don't stick out. Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
I'd be cool with this, too. Basically I want a thread that functions like this one used to: a place where remarkable finds were posted and there was near-universal agreement/celebration/envy/amazement at what someone had, against all odds, managed to find.mjmjr25 wrote:[I say leave it as is, create another single thread for extremely rare / extremely valuable / bought extremely below market. Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
so basically keep "finds of the day" as a catch-all, but then have a OMG I JUST FOUND A HOLY GRAIL IN A TRASH CAN thread for super-rare/valuable/unbelievable kind of finds?
Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
yup. A "Finds of the Day" and a "Finds of the Year" kind of thing. Neither stickied. The "games acquired" thing can keep on keeping on.noiseredux wrote:so basically keep "finds of the day" as a catch-all, but then have a OMG I JUST FOUND A HOLY GRAIL IN A TRASH CAN thread for super-rare/valuable/unbelievable kind of finds?
