Other than Alien 3, I can't think of a Fincher film that wasn't stellar.

Soundtrack by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross make it even more worthwhile. If it has any resemblance to a former David Fincher film, its Zodiac.

Here's one that should throw you all for a loop:

Image
I'm pretty sure there's not an official DVD. I just liked this cover better.

TCM tricked me a couple of weeks ago when I sat down to watch some good ol cheesy horror movie and they had this plugged into the time slot instead. When I saw the name show up on the TV guide I was kinda hoping for some space movie (or hell, with a title like that even porn). What do I get instead? An aerobic rip-off of Flashdance.

Image
And One, and Two, and Three, and JAZZ HANDS!

Yes. It's sort of like a workout video with more plot. To say the least, I was a little irked. But hey, it's an 80's movie. And I love me my 80's movies, so I figured what the hell. It's not like there was anything else on at the time anyway.

Heavenly Bodies is the story of three young women (but really it pretty much focuses on one) who were tired of their dead-end jobs. So they founded their own aerobics studio in an old converted warehouse space. They become quite popular and one of the girls, Samantha (Cynthia Dale from Moonstruck and My Bloody Valentine), even gets a local TV gig.

Image
All right, smart-asses. Quit zooming the camera in on their boobs.

She also starts up a romance with a aerobics-luvin' football player. This guy:

Image
Get up you pathetic girly man!

Business is booming. All is going well. But of course, this is an 80's movie so inevitably a competing gym gets all pissy. Backstabbing is attempted and sleazy deals are made all in their effort to crush the competition, culminating of course in the typically cliched ending of all 80's movies, the Climactic Ending Competition. Which in this case takes place here as a 'dance till you drop' aerobics marathon.

Image
I take it back. Screw the gym. 9 hours is long enough.

Yes. This was obviously a movie trying to cash in on the 80's aerobics craze and the whole thing is incredibly typical 80's cheese. The plot comes off as incredibly corny and the acting is often 'meh' (though some of you will probably see a couple familiar faces). Of course, being an 80's movie also means it has an 80's soundtrack, the whole thing being fun, catchy and upbeat. I personally liked it. However, as with other movies like this, the same few songs are often repeated....over and over and over. If you like the songs then it won't be a problem, but if you don't then your eye may start to develop a tic.

Another thing that was nice about this film was the choreography. This being a film about an aerobics gym you expect in-sync movement and all of it looked pretty spot on, especially for a lower-budget film. But I gotta say, that some of the best stuff was when Samantha was by herself.

Image
Or if not her, than at least her body double.

Coincidentally, those were also the scenes that were more artistically shot, something that seemed to be lacking in the rest of the movie (Really not all that surprising).

Image
Or maybe it's not artistic and it's just my love for silver and blue talking.

The film is rated 'R', something I found a little surprising considering the subject matter. There's some mild swearing and a (very) vauge sex scene, but much of it was tame.

My guess is this is what tipped the rating over:

Edited for your safety and frustration.
(I had to make a screencap of this from Youtube. I hope you all appreciate my efforts.)

All in all, not too bad of a movie. Not fantastic, but also not as horrid as my small description gives it credit for. It's certainly not a competitor to Flashdance, but it's a fun little gem in it's own right. If you don't mind all the aerobics (or you really, really like those tight leotards.....for some reason) than this is probably worth a quick viewing. If you can't stand 80's movies or anything that resembles dancing in general then you won't find what you're looking for here.

enjoyed this horror movie called "Let me in" last night:

Image

the movie is set on 1983 about a unhappy 12 yr old boy who is neglected by his divorcing parents, and continually harassed at school by bullies until he meets a new neighbor around his age (Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass) who he got closer with....but she has a "dark secret" (not gonna spoil anything here). I really enjoyed the film with it's dark theme and great plot. thumbs up for me and i recommend it. :)

video game related, here's a picture scene of the movie where they were playing ms. pac-man:

Inazuma, if you ever go on a sex date, do not drink the beer.

I repeat, do not drink the beer...

Otherwise you might end up with a Y-seal...

As many others have observed, it looks more like crossdresser Pac-man than Ms. Pacman

Have you seen the original? I hate to sound like a typical "it was better" douche, but it actually was.

THAT SAID...

I *really* enjoyed the American version. It was a VERY faithful translation from the Swedish version. I thought it was just about as good and the changes they made were pretty good and didn't detract at all.
(Abby's caretaker doesn't have the car accident in the original)
The book is RIDICULOUSLY awesome - and a LOT more intense. I love both movies. The only thing they removed from the original in the American version that I wasn't too jazzed about was right toward the end....
When Eli (the vampire's name in Sweden) saves Oskar (owen) at the pool, she pulls his head up from the water so he can take a breath. In the Swedish version, the camera shifts to Eli's face, and she smiles at him with her big pretty eyes. It's a very short, but moving scene that I thought should have been left in, but it doesnt REALLY detract. It's just my humble opinion.
All in all though, I loved Let Me In. If you have a chance, check out the Swedish version, called Let the Right One In.

And read the book. It's intense. And dark. And a little scary. Its *awesome.*
