How many consoles did you own during its relevant time?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

How many consoles did you own during its relevant time?

Post by flojocabron »

sorry if this makes no sense.

But how many times did you buy (Or your parents?) the same console when it was relevant/ current gen?

Did you buy a second console because of a large family or separate living conditions (aka divorces). Or one for each sibling?

Or when your console broke, you then got another one. How many times did this happen? Whether from Neglect, over use, or some strange accident?

Do you buy a second console for this same reason? One to use and the second when the first one broke?

I am currently on my second PS2 when my first one died after nine years. And I had a gameboy advance that finally broke and then got another Gameboy SP. that ones getting old too. But I've never had two running systems at the same time. Have you?

Many of us wait for the newer revisions and upgrades but do you actively use both during their relavant use?

I definitely know this happened with everyones xbox 360's Died and replaced huh?

TL;DR

So.... How many times have you bought the same console?

My NES is the only one I had to replace, it is now a model 2. The rest of my consoles are original. In the case of the SNES, it was a unit from the launch month, August 1991.

All consoles are always relevant. Silly.

I replaced my broken GBASP this year with...a regular GBA. I know it seems like a step down, but it was 25 cents and I like the controls/width a lot better. Much more comfortable.

My PS3 also broke this year, but I fixed it.

And my PS2 broke last gen, I haven't replaced it. I use the b/c on my PS3. Maybe not the best idea. Oh well.

Most of the time, I owned one, until the 2000s. I did own an Atari 2600 and an NES at the same time, but the 2600 was mostly dead and the NES dominated. After that it was 1 at a time with a SNES, then a Genesis, then a PS1. Trading each one in towards the next one, starting with my NES towards the SNES.

I owned 2 systems again when I got a Dreamcast and already had a PS1. That was because I had gotten my first job at the time and had extra dough to burn, so I could afford to buy a Dreamcast without having to trade in my old system towards the new one. This was probably the perfect time to have these 2 systems, too, since Dreamcast had the cream of the crop at the time but PS1 had a very large and varied library to play in-between Dreamcast titles.

My current collection started with my XBox (original) & already owned Dreamcast, then a PC, then a PS2, then a Gamecube. The PS2 and Gamecube was because they were getting so cheap. After that, I got completely out of control with my collecting.

I bought my NES in 1992 even though the mighty S-NES had been out for a year. The price difference (maybe $50) was partly responsible. Plus I knew Mario Bros. 3 was awesome, but had no idea what to expect of this "Super Mario World" business.

Fortunately, we got an SNES not much later. This was undoubtedly influenced by my dad and I being enamored over Star Fox's polygonal awesomeness. Then, somewhere in the mid-90's a Sega Genesis found its way to our house as well; Great times! :D

Grandmother bought me a Game Boy Pocket in 1996 which was my first video game system ever. Upgraded to Game Boy Color in 1998. Parents got me a Nintendo 64 for Christmas in 1998. Father bought me a PlayStation to have at his house in 1999 after my parents split. Bought a Dreamcast in 2000, Game Boy Advance in 2001, PlayStation 2 in 2001, Gamecube in 2002, Xbox in 2003. Bought a DS light in 2006, PSP in 2008.

For this generation of hardware a 360 in 2006, Wii 2007, and a PS3 in 2008 to replace the 360.

Owned while current, and their current state:

PSone (2003), killed by a Dr. Pepper spill caused by one of my younger siblings. RIP.
PS2 (2004), sold to finance my Xbox 360. Dumb decision.
Xbox 360 Core (2006), took it's last breath in 2009.
oXbox (2006), disc drive died within a month of purchasing it. Later got another one after oXbox was quite over with.
DS Lite (2009), sold so that I could take advantage of it's pre-3DS value, so that I could later re-purchase a DS at a lower price.
Wii (2009) still alive and in use.
PS3 Slim 160GB (2010) still alive and in use.
PSP 3000 (2011) still alive, but not in use (it's kinda boring, really.)
DSi XL (2011) still alive and in use.
