If you have original childhood games, do you...

Post by Hyp81 »

Keep the ones you never liked, just because they were your original childhood games?? I am torn on this issue. I had an NES and a Genesis when I was a kid and friends and relatives would buy games for me as gifts. Some of them I truly hated. I've tried many of them again, and a couple are okay now that I am older and more experienced, but some I still hate.

So do I hold onto them for nostalgia's sake, or sell them and send them along to someone else who might really enjoy and treasure them? :?

What games you received as gifts do you truly hate?

Hate is such a strong word...

I had to decide this my self and after years of never playing them I decided to just get rid of them. I will still keep the treasures I fell in love with though, like my boxed Mega Man from when I was 5. I just didn't have the space to keep them all, and there was no way I was going back to Black Fire. I would say if it holds extreme sentimental value than keep it, but chances are your folks may not even remember what they gave you.

...keep 'em. There's only one game I truly hate (Batman Dark Tomorrow) and I'm still hanging on to it for some unknown reason.

The cover art looks like real comic art. Could that be it? It always pulls me in to look at it when I'm flipping through used XBox games.

To the OP:

If you don't like em, sell em I say. Why hang on to it if you're never gonna play it when you could have a game you'd actually enjoy, instead?

That said, I have some games that are generally considered bad by the gaming community in large that I hold onto just because I played the heck out of them as a kid so I personally enjoy them. The King's Field series on PS1/PS2 comes immeadiatly to mind, as does Frankenstein: The Monster Returns and Pin-Bot both on NES. I love those games and most people I've run across that's played them hate them. If this is the case with you, then hold on to them, because you'll regret letting go of them.

I have several NES carts I just really don't like, including Hook, Goonies II, and Abadox. Hook and Goonies II bore me, and Abadox is obnoxious. I strongly dislike them (hate is probably too strong a word) enough to not want to pick them up.

The sad thing is that I have done both. I kept all of my games since I started this endeavor. Many of the ones I didn't like I kept but the few that were awful I sold or traded. Through sheer irony, I reacquired those games unintentionally on unrelated trades. Usually if I have more then one copy, I typically get rid of one to maintain order. Sadly it doesn't always turn out...

I try to keep my collection "clean". I skim the shelves every now and then, and if I see a game I just honestly don't see myself spending any time with, I try to pass it on to someone else. Doesn't matter if it's a childhood game or not.

That's all up to you. My relatives don't really buy me games, so I don't personally have any issues with that. One game, GUN, is not considered the best in the world. But, it was my first M rated game, so I want to keep it. Its been a long time since I played it, but I treasure every western game I find in the wild because there are so few...
