Redifer wrote:Audiophile hear /pun. I have some fairly decent Sony headphones (MDR-V600) but they don't do well in the high frequencies (the REALLY high ones, like the sound a CRT beam or the 32X makes). Those headphones in the original post might be nice but I can tell you that I already do not like that two wires are going to the headphones rather than just one. That means you'll have to look at the phones themselves to see which is left and which is right every time you put them on. With one wire, you know the wire goes to the left so that there is no fumbling about. Now some might argue this is better because now the cables are the exact same length for each ear, providing sound that is better than real life. Nonsense. No human can hear that fast and the short length of extra cable required for the other hear could not provide a conceivable delay in sound to that ear.

Oh, and as an audiophile I'd just like to say this: Monster® Cable™ sucks!
 Sorry that these $1300 headphones are not up to your standards.

Anybody a fan of vinyl? Me, I'll get it if I have too. Generally I'd rather have a CD, just for my own sanity. Records can have so many little imperfections in playback due to problems with the record itself or the turntable setup.

I use Monster Cable on my NES and SNES. Problem? I think not - they're way better than the stock ones for sure.

But if you're using it with your multi-thousand-dollar equipment, I understand :D

I get all my audio and video cables from Monoprice. They've always been good to me at a good price.

Some people do believe in cable voodoo. I've never really tried it to know whether I think spending $200+ on a cable is worth it, haha. I'll never bother trying it unless I win the lottery.

I can see the electrical reasoning behind some of it. You do want good shielding if your not dealing with digital signals. Beyond that it seems to be just crazy, but that's how it goes.

$700 to include the remote?!

If I go insane and become insanely wealth I'd get a goldmun. The whole setup's something like $300,000.

Now what really crazy are goldmund setups. The whole thing's something like $300,000.

The sound quality might be, I don't know. I'd definitely need to hear them before dropping money on them, though. Price certainly isn't everything but many audiophiles feel that the more something costs, the better it must be. This is the part of the market Monster has cornered. People think they need a firehose-sized cable to hook up their 100 watt 4-ohm speakers. You don't want crappy cables, for sure, but you don't need to go nuts with them, either.

I'm not sure how Monster SNES s-video cables could be better than the ones from Nintendo themselves as they are about as good as s-video gets. Monster always seems to be poorly constructed/manufactured and they fall apart rather quickly, you mustn't handle them much. The pins on their s-video cables get bent and fall off more easily than any other s-video cable I've ever seen. And they never release information about the gauge of wire they use.

I'm using Composite for both, actually. I know Monster isn't the king of cables, but they ARE way better than the generic skinny cables my NES cables came with. That's obvious just looking at it. As for the SNES, well...I had them laying around, and the signal does look a lot better than the stock cables.

And my TV does have an S-Video port, but I swear it must combine it back into Composite. There is literally no difference, although RGB and Component are as clear as day. I really have no idea why. But it's a 11-year-old projection HDTV...so it's pretty weird.

The sound quality on these headphones is the best I've heard. No competition. And I have owned 3 different pairs of headphones in the $300 - $500 range. That said, they are are NOT 3 - 4x BETTER than those other headphones because the cheaper headphones I am talking about are already fantastic. The laws of diminishing returns do apply. But I do certainly notice an improvement in a number of areas including clarity, soundstage depth, imaging, etc. Everything sounds more real. But there are negative impacts to such high end headphones. As great as hifi equipment can sound, production issues are also magnified. Issues with poor recordings that actually detract from the listening experience. It's nice to hear all the little micro details, but it also sucks when hear how terribly some of your favorite songs may have been recorded, haha.

As for Monster, you are a bit confused about Monster and audiophiles. Audiophiles generally aren't a fan of Monster cables. Or Monster headphones (Like Beats by Dr. Dre). Or Bose. These products tend to offer a high price with flashy looks and flashy packaging but a low quality product to go with it.

What some of them are interested by are cables like ones offered by this company: http://www.moon-audio.com/

Now do they have a real impact on performance or is it just placebo? I do not know. I have never experienced such high end cables myself. I know that in the digital world it would be placebo. But when transferring an analog signal? Well, maybe they do have some impact. And if they do, well there is a market out there that'll pay high prices for the smallest improvements in sound quality. I generally go with Monoprice. They offer great quality at rock bottom prices. Works for me.
