My vote goes to the Mass Effect series.

Snatcher is one game a found very atmospheric. Particularly the MSX version. The crude graphic on a old CRT monitor the long loading and the awesome music from the SCC+ cartridge made a really memorable experience.

Alien vs Predator for Jaguar is the one that comes to mind...

Did anybody play The Journeyman Project? This was a PC/Mac title that fascinated and terrified me, often simultaneously. At the time I played it I was too young to make much progress, but I've always meant to go back someday.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica gives me the creeps more than any other game in the series (though I love 1 & 2 most). The first time I climbed a short flight of stairs to avoid a zombie in a barrack and watched it follow me, I distinctly remember yelling, "No! NO! That's never been possible before! You're not allowed to do that! Don't you know the rules?!" It broke so many conventions (e.g. trusting that cleared rooms stay cleared) that I stopped feeling safe, ever.

I'm interested that most of our answers lean toward the scary.

lol, I did the same thing when I went into a building to get away from the locals in Resident Evil 4 for the first time...and they started pouring in the windows and doorway.

Don't forget the Battle Mode -- not only are they all over, but you're going against the clock -- you think the room is clear but there's one in that corner you didn't check out, or that HUNTER you conveniently forgot about, and you used the healing items, and your VMU is saying CAUTION --

Yeah. Great game

Portal. I recently bought the Orange Box, and I finished HL2. I immediately went to portal, and had much more fun with it right off the bat. It is, quite sadly, a short game, but awesome nonetheless.

HL2 has a pretty good atmosphere, but it didn't seem up to par for what I expected. Of course, trying to play that game for achievements may have hurt part of my experience. But playing in alternate ways like that is fun.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.
