I found that Mega Man X Collection, or maybe it was Mega Man Anniversary Collection, I'm not sure. Anyways, I found that one of the two games wouldn't accept my PS1 dual-shock controller, so I'm sure it wouldn't accept an original analog-less controller.Satoshi_Matrix wrote:No no, I obviously know I can't play games like Silent Hill that require movement with the analog sticks. What I'm asking about are games like Taito Legends, Megaman X Collection, Gradius V, Street Fight Alpha Anthology, Melty Blood, etc. Can I use an original PS1 digital controller on a PS2 to play those games?

I just looked at the back of my Mega Man X collection and it requires analog control. That's pretty dumb considering all the Mega Man X games were played with the D-Pad.
If you're looking to use an arcade stick I can understand the frustration. But why use the regular PS1 pad? Wouldn't the Dualshock be just as good?

My guess is maybe he's planning on making a stick using a plain pad as the base.Valkyrie-Favor wrote: If you're looking to use an arcade stick I can understand the frustration. But why use the regular PS1 pad? Wouldn't the Dualshock be just as good?

I bought a very sweet looking Japanese PS1 digital controller that more resembles an SNES pad - this is why I needed to ensure it could be used to play PS2 games. Since I'm reasonably sure it will, I've gone ahead and ordered it. I'll be sure to make a youtube vid (and possibly revive this thread) when I get it.

Awesome. How much did you pay for it? I might be interested in something like that.

But isn't an original PS1 controller basically a SNES controller already?Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Awesome. How much did you pay for it? I might be interested in something like that.

I really hate the broken up d-pad of the Playstation family controllers. Sega eventually got it right with the Genesis/Saturn dpad, but Sony has consistently missed the mark every time.

I really like the PS D-pad for more leisurely games like RPGs and adventure games. It's super comfortable. But with intense stuff - fighters, shmups, sometimes even platformers - it does get pretty annoying.
I have never found the perfect D-Pad, though. I think the closest thing is the PS3 Street Fighter fightpads.
