But GoDaddy helped write the bill. Just because they oppose it now doesn't excuse them from it.Xeogred wrote:That along with GoDaddy opposing it now is great news.alienjesus wrote:Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and EA have apparently removed their names from the list of companies that support this bill:

That and the fact that people are now opposing this AFTER it was technically debated already is still pretty sketchy.
Re: Kill SOPA, bill goes to house December 15.
Just wrote a letter to my local congresswoman:
Dear Amy Klobuchar,
The global entrancing powerhouse we know as the internet has strongly assisted in fueling our nations economy for the past decade. It is used for creative business endeavors, sparking giants like YouTube, Netflix, FaceBook, and thousands of other innovative sites, completely unique to this platform. It has allowed technology to advance in unimaginable ways.
Yet there are people who abuse it, by posting content that infringes copyright, causing damage to legitimate firms. This problem needs to be targeted, while at the same time, protecting the economic advancement the internet has been providing to our nation.
SOPA and PIPA need extreme revisions. These acts would allow government officials to terminate any website from American access, at the expense of the website owner.
Not only will it enforce American internet with Chinese-like restrictions, but it will criminalize standard online behaviors that have become such a strong part of our societal culture.
To stoop at this level, just so movie producers and software designers can earn the money they deserve, is unnecessary. America is better than this.
It should all be as simple as removing the infringing files from websites. Not making it a felony. Not punishing the consumer. Not turning the basic use of internet into a risk behavior.
With best regards,
- James

so when does this bill actually come up to be voted on to pass? I can't see anyway in hell that it comes close to getting approved. if it does I will be done with the internet
Re: Kill SOPA, bill goes to house December 15.
I heard they will vote on January 24th or so. The big tech companies such as Google and Yahoo are considering shutting down their own websites before that happens in order to help spread awareness. I really hope they do it because that's probably the only chance we have to stop it from passing.Icedawg wrote:so when does this bill actually come up to be voted on to pass? Good. Did Google do this just now? Because I can't access Google or Youtube at the moment, haha.Inazuma wrote:I heard they will vote on January 24th or so. Facebook might apparently do this too. Hate to give them a thumbs up, but that'd definitely probably destroy SOPA.

Since this signature affects old posts, I'm leaving a message here in case anyone searches for my username. This account died in early 2013. I am no longer a fundamentalist.
Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.

Here's an article on it. If they go through with it, we would instantly have many millions of Americans (and non-Americans) beating the shit out of SOPA and PIPA until they are completely obliterated. It would be all over the news and everyone would be talking about it.
