there's no way we can do all the devs, but there's no rule that we have to do this for only one year.
I say pick a list of 10 (one month off for STG, one for TR), let the Cave title be DDP in Dec for TR, and go with 10 others. I'd like to see one doujin game, and a PC doujin one is probably easiest as they can be found for free.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but aren't all doujin games PC? (Or do you mean PC vs Mac?) I was under the impression that doujin basically means a fan game. Do doujin games often appear on non-PC platforms?

Good point, as do I.
Heh, maybe we should have a way to vote for devs? There are quite a few
I think this is really the only way to get a list everyone is happy with. I can't change the OP into a poll because the max is 10 options, so we'll just have to do a vote here.
dsheinem is right about taking 2 months off for TR and the shmup forums thing, so we'll pick 10 devs from this list of twenty. Everybody pick the 10 devs you'd like to see appear most, 10 with the most votes win.
List so far:
Toaplan
Compile
Raizing
Konami
Hudson
Technosoft
SNK
Capcom
Taito
Hudson
Seibu Kaihatsu
Irem
Psikyo
Treasure
Milestone
Namco
Warashi
Success
Sega
Data East
Again I know not every shmup dev is on here but I think the list is fair pickin's. I know I omitted Cave but I don't see the point of putting Cave on here since everyone that is interested in this shmup of the month club thing will almost certainly be playing DDP for TR anyway. I know I am.
If everyone is cool with this then we can start voting asap. Then after that just throw the schedule together, and then do votes for the games themselves. We should do the vote for what Toaplan game we're doing along with the dev vote so we have something to play in Jan.
That sound good?

I think of it as an "indie game", not necessarily a "fan game" (e.g. the Gundemonium collection and Crimzon Colver are both doujin games). There's repro stuff on consoles (such as Blade Buster) and other games I would consider doujin (such as Last Resort for DC).

Everyone picks 3 Toaplan games and ranks them. After a good chunk of us have done our lists, we'll chalk up a score. The game on the top of your list is worth 3 points, second game is worth 2, last pick is worth 1. We'll play whatever game has the most points. Do a tie-breaker if necessary. If this voting system ends up working well we can use it to decide the rest of the schedule.
Not to ditch your idea EllertMichael, but this seems like it will get the decision made quicker.
Yeah, that would help move things along. Thanks for taking my feelings into consideration

Okay. Here's my top 3 Toaplan games
TOAPLAN
Batsugun - +3
Dogyuun - +2
Truxton II - +1

Okay. so these don't necessarily have to be ranked in order of preference? like dunpeal2064 pointed out earlier in the thread, the month order for devs is important. but right now we just need a preliminary list so i guess we can bang out the order later...
here's mine in no order:
Compile
Hudson
Raizing
Konami
Irem
Psikyo
Takumi
Treasure
Seibu Kaihatsu
SNK / NMK
brunoafh wrote:Now are we going to do arcade emulation or console ports with these? In the case of Grind Stormer the difference is huge, but with Batsugun for example the Saturn port is solid. Arcade will always be better obviously but I don't mind just playing the console versions of the games that got ports myself.
Well as far as just playing, I'd say any ports are fine. it's just that scores can't be compared fairly between those using arcade emulation and those playing console ports. But if playing to improve personally I say play whatever you want.
Also, if we're doing online leaderboards here on racketboy then it can be broken up into sections (ex. MAME, Genesis, Saturn... etc.) and that way scores can be compared accurately and people with means can try their hands on different formats, compare/contrast style.

Ok, here we go:
Truxton +3
Fire Shark +2
Batsugun +1
Raizing
Psikyo
Seibu
Hudson
Compile
Irem
Takumi
Taito
Alfa System
The 10th one would already be Toaplan.
I can't imagine Alfa will do too well, but I LOVE shikigami

Re: Interest Check: "Shmup of the Month Club"?
Count me in, just post which ones you guys pick for what month. =)
Re: Interest Check: "Shmup of the Month Club"?
Otay. Looks like we're getting this together rather nicely.
For Toaplan
+3 Truxton II (or heck we can do I & II)
+2 Twin Cobra
+1 Tiger Heli
Developers I'd like to see w/Toaplan
Capcom
Taito
Psikyo
SNK
Eighting/Raizing
Seibu Kaihatsu
Compile
Hudson
Irem
Additionally, if we have 20 devs and 10 per year, if this goes over well, we can take 10 this year and 10 the following year in 2013, to keep things fresh.
