Just curious. Got my new headphones sitting next to me at work, but I can't even open the box. 5 hours of work left.. Torture. D:
Beyerdynamic T1! I hope it's as good as I'm thinking it will be and a worthy upgrade to my current AKG Q701. And lets hope my current headphone amp is up to the challenge.
I suppose I'm a bit of an audiophile. I certainly care more about audio quality than most people I know. No Mp3 stuff for me, I'll buy the cd and make FLAC rip. I'm always checking on which cd release is the best sounding too. A lot of that is opinion of course, but you can at least find out which releases have obvious flaws.

Don't add to my problems by pretending my past views are still held in the present. I do not have any patience for that. Feel free to ask me what I think now.
Heh, I honestly do a lot of downloading (lossless only). And then I buy my favorites and leave them sealed.
I've tried some vinyl rips but for most releases I'm not a big fan. SACDs are nice, when available. Getting the best pressing of a CD is key. MFSL tends to have great sounding CDs. They gear the quality of their releases at audiophiles.
It's terrible when I hear a great album with atrocious production. Clipping everywhere. Distortions that should not be there. So sad.

I don't get the loudness war. People who don't know about it are going to buy CDs anyway, and the people who do know are discouraged from buying CDs.
What do you use as your media player? I use foobar set to WASPAI output.

Yeah stand alone DACs are really expensive. I never quite understood how they could be that much better than the DAC in sound cards. But I haven't looked into it that much.
Good setup by the way.
I just use the soundcard's amplification. It isn't bugging me... yet. I do intend to get better headphones sometime though.

I'm a sound nut with audiophile ears, but I can't afford the equipment. Woe is me, huh?
I stick with nice Koss headphones and CDs on a PS1 (which sounds curiously awesome). I also don't mind MP3s when they're high-bitrate and free. Since I'm into metal, I have to deal with really bad production - especially with local stuff - and still enjoy the music.

Audiophile hear /pun. I have some fairly decent Sony headphones (MDR-V600) but they don't do well in the high frequencies (the REALLY high ones, like the sound a CRT beam or the 32X makes). Those headphones in the original post might be nice but I can tell you that I already do not like that two wires are going to the headphones rather than just one. That means you'll have to look at the phones themselves to see which is left and which is right every time you put them on. With one wire, you know the wire goes to the left so that there is no fumbling about. Now some might argue this is better because now the cables are the exact same length for each ear, providing sound that is better than real life. Nonsense. No human can hear that fast and the short length of extra cable required for the other hear could not provide a conceivable delay in sound to that ear.
Oh, and as an audiophile I'd just like to say this: Monster® Cable™ sucks!

I'm not exactly an audiophile, but I do download music as FLAC, 320kbps mp3, or occasionally 256kbps AAC. I don't really buy CDs at all, but I've though about doing what you do in just buying CDs of my favorite bands or artists and keeping them sealed since I already have the audio files. I've always hated optimal media because it's so easy to scratch, so I would love have pristine discs in sealed cases. Plus, they'd look nice on my shelf and I could simply pull out the ipod when I actually want to listen to some tracks

I wouldn't consider myself an audiophile, but I do hear differences in lets say, digital vs analog recordings. I got to use a 16 track 2" tape machine last night while recording and it was amazing. I also can't really tell the difference between 320 and higher.
However, I am pretty interested in the physics of sound and how different qualities are produced and maintained.
