KOTOR... I love this game!
Re: KOTOR... I love this game!
I saw KotOR at a pawn shop for like 35 dollars the other day...
I sold my copy to a friend a couple of weeks back for like 5 bucks.

It's like $10 new on Amazon and Steam. Whoever buys it from that Pawn Shop is the one that loses here. Chances are you would've gotten less than $5 for a trade in too.

Liking Mass Effect 2 but not part 1 weird?
I HATE MASS EFFECT 1 and think it is a terrible broken mess. The sequel however is freaking amazing and I can play all day everyday. I was making fun of Mass Effect 2 leading up to it's release, but found myself stuck with a special edition I bought to sell on ebay and sunk 60 hours into it. I think Mass effect 1 atleast on 360 is an unplayable glitch ridden mess with cool characters and story, but it's not worth playing through the "game" to see all that.

Re: KOTOR... I love this game!
I super LOVE KOTOR! I have played the first game many many times on PC. It is probably the only RPG that I have really loved and played to the max. It has great characters, an awesome story, great battle system, fun side quests, interesting NPCs, etc etc etc...so on and so forth.
KOTOR II was a little broken and not as polished as the first game but not only was it rushed due to the publisher demands but it just wasn't Bioware. But still a good game!
Now I kinda want to play KOTOR again...

Re: KOTOR... I love this game!
There was a fellow on the SomethingAwful forums a while back that Let's Played KotOR2. I don't remember what his connection to the game was, but he had tonnes of info about cut content, plot, areas and whatnot, and watching him play through the game made me realize how amazing it SHOULD have been. It also made the plot make sense, and it had an actual ending. What a waste it wound up being, though.

I received a copy of KOTOR for free back when I bought Doom 3 on its release date. I have installed it many times but only played it for about five minutes. Maybe I should give it another chance?
Selling half my NES/SNES/PS1 collection (ending Dec 1):

I liked Dragon Age, but I never finished it. In large part because it just doesn't play that well on console. Aside from it feeling like a lazy PC port, it's everything that is cool about a Bioware game
I liked Mass Effect better than the sequel. The combat was much better. ME 2's combat just feels like a generic Gears of War clone. You spend all your time behind cover, popping up for the occasional shot, then taking cover again to recharge your shields. It's pretty bland and boring. You could have more fun and flexibility with the combat in the original Mass Effect. Powers worked better in the original, and watching rag doll physics in effect as I blew enemies across a room with my upgraded, explosive round packing, shotgun was a blast. I also missed the much maligned Mako vehicle from the first game. It was one of my favorite things in Mass Effect, but too many weak sauce gamers couldn't get a handle on how to use it properly
Jade Empire was fun, but they hyped up the combat so much prior to its release and what we got was a pretty bland, boring combat system. The only cool thing about it was the occasional Mortal Kombat like brutal moves your character would occasionally pull off
For my money KOTOR and the original Mass Effect are still Bioware's best console rpgs.

Knights of the Old Republic is an amazing game, especially to the new comer (such as I was) to the PC gaming industry. It's also possible to get your grubby hands on KotoR II - The Sith Lords. Be warned, much of the plot is jimmy rigged together to meet deadlines. However, there is a ton of missing content that has been hacked back into the game. Be sure to look for it.

Whoa whoa whoa... all this talk about Bioware and nobody's mentioned Baldur's Gate and BG 2?
Dragon Age was made with the specific goal of being a spiritual successor to BG 2, plot choices, free choice of where to go, getting to know your companions on a deep personal level. Baldur's Gate was highly ambitious for the time and worked very well.
That said I still prefer Black Isle's work from this period, its unbelievably hard to top Fallout 1 and 2, and Planescape: Torment still sits on my personal computer RPG throne, not even being close to challenged (well... except for maybe Fallout 2.)
