The name of the game is to make a game as challenging for yourself as possible, while using the bare minimum of upgrades or items. In the case of Final Fantasy 6, abusing the jump command and fleeing from battles can get you as low as level 11 to complete the game. Still other players will play through a game without save points.
The goal of a ghetto skill run is not bragging rights, that goes to time attack and gameplay that requires brute force memorization. This is about strategy and a battle of wits against the game.
All of that said, I do have one game in question which still humiliates me to this day. That is Megaman X3. Zero dies too easily, and X readily takes damage from multiple hits - thats with full upgrades. I decided it was time for some payback, so the challenge is as follows:
No armor upgrades, and X is only allowed items unlockable without that armor. That means 2-3 hits from the last boss and he's dead. X may have Zero's saber, but without the arm buster and the accompanying beam wave, he has to get in close for a clean shot. You'll see where I messed up trying to hit Sigma, but this is the final result:

I've shown you mine, now show me yours. Bonus points if it is a game that frustrated you to no end.

I've always gone no-upgrades in Mega Man X just because I can't be bothered to find them. I beat X and X2 this way for sure. Not sure about the others. But it won't be that hard - just memorize the attack patterns and abuse the constricted spaces in boss cubes.

Re: Ghetto Skill Runs Anyone?
I've always considered that to be the standard MM X challenge for the more hardcore fans. I've beaten every boss in MM X 2 without upgrades, heart upgrades or energy tanks using only the X buster
I've also beaten MM X 4 with both Zero and X with no upgrades/energy tanks/heart tanks while also never allowing myself to attack the boss with a weapon that they were weak too
I've always thought it was fun to try and do that with MM X games and I also view it as a way to truly appreciate the design of those games. To me, a MM X game that can't be beaten without using upgrades, energy tanks, heart tanks, and without exploiting enemy weaknesses is not a well designed MM X game

Hey, nice work on the snail thing in part 3. I actually never realized you could knock it away by dashing. Lol. I beat it anyway, but that would have come in handy.
That wrecking ball ape thing is brutal. I usually hang out on the far side of one of the floating platforms until the spike ball comes towards me, then hang out in the top left corner until he's done flailing it around. It's probably not the greatest strategy but it got me through in a few tries.

I can't see the YouTube links at work but the 600 pt Super Mario Brothers run was pretty awesome.
