Need advice on a new TATE tv/monitor

As the title says, I am in the market for something to replace my now-broken TATE monitor setup. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

The main focus is to get my 360 (no hdmi port), ps2, and saturn hooked up and looking nice.

I have been trying to decide if I should just get a pc monitor and vga hookups, and eventually get a scanline generator, or if I should stick to component (svid for saturn) hookups and a nice crt.

I'm not good with these technical things yet, so thanks to anyone that can help me out.

I'm goin crazy without my TATE shmups!

Edit: oh, and Im thinking something in the 20 inch ballpark would probably be best

Buy a decent PC monitor.

Look out for:

- reaction time: 2ms Don't take anything less...
- high contrast
- 16:10 with 1:1 pixelmapping

I have a 26 inch 16:10 iiyama, unfortunately without pixelmapping. For some reason it displays 4:3 material perfectly though. Dreamcast with VGA looks wonderful on it. So yeah, I'd go for a monitor...

Maybe even look into buying second hand.

I say get a crt with a "flatscreen." those will most certainly have component and s-video connections. 20" is perfect for a TATE setup, IMHO. nice and big enough to fill your face, but not too big - you can still see all the action without having to scan the screen with your eyes so much.

alternatively you could keep an eye on craigslist for a Sony PVM and go either s-video or the RGB to SCART route for the Saturn (and possibly VGA for 360)

either way I'd say check craigslist as right now people are just giving these great crts away for free.

Be careful rotating a CRT to use as a TATE screen. Some CRTs have internal cradles designed for the normal position only. A chance of cracking the bezel.

Excellent advice! Keep an eye on your local "Free" section on Craigslist. There are ALWAYS people in my area giving away free CRT's and old pc monitors

Truth. If you want to eventually go the SCART route, make sure you get a PVM model that supports the add-on boards. Comp/S-vid only models are give-a-ways, but the higher 1080i supported models set my friends back $80-150.

Question!

Does the PVM have VGA? Or will I only find this on a monitor.

I'm fine spending a few hundred munnies to make these games look as nice as possible, since I've spent $1500+ on the games and consoles that will be used on it

Yeah. Well, some do. but some don't.
the ones that do will probably cost money
