turbografx or genesis?

Post by mas »

Hi everyone,
The other day I had picked up a genesis with a few games instead of getting some ps3 games at gamestop. Well the system is not working well so I returned it. Now I have a snes and a nes but I want to get a 3rd retro cartridge system. Either a tg16 or a genesis like a cdx or a different model turbografx 16 than the usual. I know it's going to be expensive but what do you guy's suggest? Let me know thanks.

I'd just find another Genesis. Or those PS3 games you wanted in the first place.

I'd go with Genesis, but if you don't want it, then get a PC Engine. It is the Japanese equivelent of the TG 16 but there is a larger selection of games. Soldier series FTW!

As much as I love my Turbo, I would have to recommend Genesis for the best quality to price ratio. It's got a great selection and many are dirt cheap. The TG16 has some real "off the beaten path" games, but the better titles are rather pricey.

There is only one model of "Turbografx-16." Are you thinking of getting a Turboduo or a PC Engine variant?

If you are penny pinching, get a Genesis.
If you don't care too much about prices, I recommend a PC Engine with Super CD (like a Duo). The Japanese game selection is much, MUCH better than the US selection. The difference is even greater than the US Saturn/JP Saturn.

I'd get a genesis. Lots and lots of great titles in many genres are readily available for it at low prices. Try to get one with good sound quality. Here's a guide on it.

If you have a chance to pick up a TurboGrafx-16 for a good price, get it. It's not like those come along everyday.

On the other hand, Sega Genesis's are quite common and cheap. You can always get a Genesis.

If you're asking which has the better game library, though, I'd say Sega Genesis has a better game library. Much larger and more diverse. That's not to say the TG-16 library is bad, though. I had a TG-16 (it got damaged), and played the heck out of it. But I still played my Genesis more.

The Genesis is great, especially considering price vs. quality and quantity. The TG16 is more of a "hardcore collector's" console, in the sense that it's not exactly cheap, easy to find, nor does it have the broad appeal of the Genesis. If you really want to get into the NEC scene, get the PC Engine instead.
