What are all these private trackers

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What are all these private trackers

Post by Ivo »

I used to only read about Underground Gamer. But lately there's been some activity in the boards about invites to other (I can only assume are also) private trackers. Demonoid, BitGamer... What are these trackers about, also about retrogaming? I'm not at all familiar with trackers, but would it be better to just have one bigger private tracker community than having it be splintered like this? Maybe not, as if the only (big) one goes down for some reason it would be a mess.

Underground Gamer is the only one I'm aware of that caters to the retro crowd. They are playing it safer in terms of not allowing newer games that are still on supported platforms.

Most of the others are carrying newer games. And the reason there is more than one is the same reason that there is more than one gaming news site. They are essentially competing against each other -- whether it be fore advertising dollars or just knowing that there's is the biggest.

My point is that I think they would get more advertising, more seeds and peers if they consolidated. They could merge and "corner" the market :)

Demonoid is a scene that needs no others.

Does anyone know if Demonoid is a sting? Right now, I'm only using Demonoid to DL Linux distros.

No way. I'm turning into an audiophile and demonoid is only ok for that. Sure I can get most common rock stuff but if I want something a bit less mainstream it's quite hard to find flacs.

I got a Demonoid account, and I can definitely tell it's not a trap. Though, it's not very useful for retro stuff. There's some fullsets, but any thing else doesn't have many seeds. UG is a lot better, although the ratio rules are a bit annoying since my upload speed is shit.

Awesome! I can use Demonoid as a reference to get into other trackers again. I have a ratio of 13.39 (3GB downloaded, 41 GB uploaded).

Wow, nice ratio. I got around 3.00 or so; I haven't used it much since it got relaunched.
