Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
But that doesn't mean that they think they should be entitled to anything for free. I still don't see the connection. Stating that if they can't get the way they like it, then they won't feel bad stealing it for the way they like it isn't saying that they should get it they way they like it for free. Really all people here say is that they feel that it's easier (and rightfully so) and better (we can talk about morals til the cows come home, but people will differ on them, and it's futile to argue about it here) to get it DRM-free but pirated. But no one is saying that the companies should just give them free stuff.

It had nothing to do with piracy. Someone said that it was pathetic compensation. The word compensation implies that you're entitled to it for something you did. All it was was GameStop way of saying Merry Christmas to it's customers, which they didn't have to do that because there are plenty of companies that don't.

Well, actually, no. You have to sign up and give them information. If you didn't do that, then you wouldn't get it.BurningDoom wrote:It had nothing to do with piracy. But all it really is is a coupon. Not sure what's the big deal. Do you say "Wow, thanks!" when a grocery store sends coupons? That's been the norm for companies for decades. And they do it even better, since they don't require telephone number and email before giving you a coupon.
Edit: I'm not saying they're doing anything wrong, nor am I complaining. I just don't see the big deal. You say only Nintendo is doing stuff like that, but really, every major outlet that sells video games has sales and coupons. This isn't any different.

And a free magazine and free online game points for Kongregate. Not just a coupon. It was nice is what I'm saying. Tis the season the season, huh?o.pwuaioc wrote:Well, actually, no. If that's what you're into, then great! It's not hard to get free "sample" stuff and coupons, though, from a good many places is all I'm saying.

Well it only makes sense. They don't want to support the company but they still want to play the games. What do you expect, they should stand on principle and not play the game?dsheinem wrote:I probably should have said "you haven't read the piracy threads" --- though piracy often comes up in the Other OS threads. GameStop I went to two days ago had the worst selection I've ever seen. Zero PS2 and Gamecube games. The only current gen games in stock where the typical hype titles: Gears of War, Call of Duty, etc. Most used DS games had no cases. I actually managed to find some decent PS2 games, but the cases were broken! Total balls.

It's not like they usually have a stellar selection, or anything, but I'd imagine things are worse than normal being that it's so close to Christmas and all.BoneSnapDeez wrote:GameStop I went to two days ago had the worst selection I've ever seen. When I was a store manager at GameStop years ago those survey's you fill out really do affect the store. Every week managers have a conference call with their District Manager to go over numbers, etc. and part of your yearly review is based on those survey's and how well they are. You will probabaly only get a response if the issue is really really bad and went so far as to call home office to report an issue since they directly report those to the District Manager to follow up on. But on the positive if the District Manager is a good one (mine was) he will take the time to read those survey's and will call out and take action on managers and employees not doing their jobs so if you have issues keep posting them they will take action for you.BoringSupreez wrote:Yes, I have. @ Veriz - Not the survey, but the Direct Comment with the District Manager Contact Customer Check Box gets better results. I managed to STOP two local Gamestops from tossing out PS2 cases and received a Gift Card gratuity gift for pointing it out. I have yet to see holes in UPCs in my area, I will definitely scream if it happens. Anyone who sees a problem or wants to praise an employee can have a bigger impact thru that Direct Comment to the Gamestop site.Veriz wrote:When I was a store manager at GameStop years ago those survey's you fill out really do affect the store.
