For me, its a complicated situation.

I think Super Circuit for GBA has the best controls, but MK Wii has incredible online play, with similar controls to the GBA version. Mario Kart Wii gets my vote.

I like the way power sliding works in the GBA and Wii versions than the "slide, left-right-left-right-boost" power sliding in all the others.

Sounds like you'd like Mario Kart 7

It's hard for me to decide. I played the original for hours on end when I was a kid, I enjoyed the passenger gimmick in Double Dash, and I probably put the most amount of time into Mario Kart DS. I didn't have an N64 so I didn't put a lot of time into Mario Kart 64 and for some reason even though I had a GBA for several years I never got a copy of Super Circuit.

MK64! Beginners have an easy time navigating most of the courses. Items seem balanced. Battle mode is good.

I have a hard time controlling my kart in Super Mario Kart. I slide all around. Seems like I have to do a lot of fast breaking and jumping just to get through a lap at all. I'm getting better at it, but I have to fight way to hard to get anywhere.

MK Wii is fun, but the item distribution is atrocious. The bikes also have a clear advantage over karts. Battle mode is nearly unplayable thanks to huge arenas. I also miss some of the battle modes from double dash.

Gotta be 64, as its the first one I owned and the one I have played the most by far. Though I really enjoyed Double Dash and Wii for the online experience.

I have set up a 64 at my parent's for when I go there for Christmas in 2.5 hours! Mostly for this game, at my sister's request.

(I have found that most people find it hard to go backwards when it comes to Mario Kart, and I'm no exception. The original on the SNES one hurts my eyes with its pseudo-3D, but I don't deny its a great title for many millions of gamers)

The Mario Kart GP Arcade games are almost a joke, as i bet barely anyone played one since Arcades are like non-existent, i want to play one but im not about to travel to Las Vegas, Chicago or some bigger city to find a decent Arcade where they can actually support one.

Wish they would of just ported it to the Wii or maybe the Wii U, i hear its ALOT different than Mario Kart Wii the graphics are better and the carts/tracks have more detail, and to believe Nintendo had to nerve to make a sequel.

Just bothers the hell out of me  :(

Hoping a ROM dump is available of them somewhere someday, not like Nintendo will lose any money from it anyways.

I played it a couple times at this laser tag place. Costs a dollar per play, without any 1st place benefits (no winning free plays.) It plays really well, but I don't think the tracks had as much thought put into them as most of the console versions. Not as exciting as it seems. You can also play as Pac-Man characters.

Double Dash for me. I love how you can hold two items, and how each character has a different special item. 8 players local co-op with LAN is great, except for being forced to pick random characters and courses. This was the last console Mario Kart with the left, right mini turbo system, which I prefer over the Wii/3DS style because it involves more skill.

A close second would be Mario Kart 64. This probably had the best battle mode of the series. I could play Block Fort battle mode with 4 players forever and never get bored.

Original SMK -- If only I was blown away at Toys R Us by it when I first tried it -- and for the awesome day it was when I got it in Christmas 1992 :)

I know MK64 is gonna run away with it tho :? Too many of you played it!

I like the DS one the best. Double Dash is good. Mario Kart 64 is good, but I always felt it was lacking a little something. I didn't play it back when it was new like everyone of my friends so I have no nostalgia for it.
