From what i have read its not really an Alien prequel ... It just takes place in the Alien universe and happens to be set before the first movie.. hehe. When they started the project it was supposed to be a prequel though.

Uh, no. This isn't Michael Bay, playing to the lowest common denominator. Prometheus is to Alien as The Hobbit is to Lord of the Rings.

Not the same at all. The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Trilogy were well-loved books long before they were movies. So to most fans, the fact that The Hobbit comes before the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (and not prequel at all actually since the Hobbit was written first) is common knowledge.

On the other hand, Prometheus is an entirely new piece of fiction that is a TRUE prequel and new addition to the Alien franchise.

According to Scott, though the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak", Prometheus will explore its own mythology and universe and is not directly linked to Alien.
