Yay, Crayon Shin-chan! That shit is funny. Too bad the creator died a couple of years ago. New comics were still being made, but now they won't be. He went hiking in northern Japan and went missing. His body was found a few days later.

Nothing special there. They are both common and will be basically unplayable for you. Shin-chan is kind of a platformer, but it is quite text heavy.

The Famicom game is Suikoden (haha, sound familiar?): Tenmei no Chikai. It's basically a Three Kingdoms war strategy game.

my finds.....

went to best buy to pick up my copy of Metroid Other M as well.

Went to toys R us and there were slim pickins (I am a cheapass!), Holiday shoppers got many things there. It was messy there. They had a buy one get one 40% off but there wasnt anything of real interest. Didnt buy the second game. Picked up a generic Wii blaster gun for about $7.00 and X Blades PS3 for $9.99

At Gamestop I rescued some DS games. Used but thankfully complete. Glory of Heracles for $6.29. Contact for $4.49. Spectral Force Genesis for $7.19. Out of the three Contact is the most beat up, the manual is messed up and dog eared, but its price was nice.

My local FYE is closing :( They currently have 10 20 and 30 percent off.

They have some deals, but I'm gonna wait for when they have a real good discount.

Resident Evil Code Veronica X PS2 $3.99. Mad Maestro PS2 $1.59. Time Splitters PS2 $2.39. Megaman X7 PS2 $4.79

A game boy advance SP. $25, with TMNT for gba $4.75.

Back story - I'm not familiar with the game boy at all, never had a hand held until I got my first game boy colour 2 christmases ago. A few pages back I posted that I got a game boy advance, a white one, and Gradius advance. Anyway, I had instant buyers remorse. I, for some dumb reason, just assumed that Nintendo had brought in the back lit screen for the advance. How wrong I was, It looked crap to me. I guess it was fine when the system was current, but for me the screen was harder to look at than the old game boy. Even the light I had for the GBC only lit up the middle of the screen and made it glary.

So a week later this advance SP pops up in the pawn shop near my work (I had meanwhile done some research and knew the screen was back lit). I saw it and thought "nah, $45 is too much to spend on a console I don't even like within the one week". I thought someone would snap it up and that would be that. Next day, its still there. I thought, "OK, the screen is probably scratched to crap". I asked to have a look at it and... almost flawless screen, the outside was acceptable, and it was the black one which looks quite spiffy. I only had $5.00 on me, so I left it to fate.....

This morning I drove there and got them to turn it on for me, I used their TMNT as a tester, and it looks brilliant!, exactly how I'd hoped the advance would look. Plus its chargable! Plus it came with a protective case! And a car charger! (though it turns out its actually a car charger for the GBC, dammit). So, I bought it, and the game, and I LOVE IT!

Such a good handheld. People must have been blown away when this was released! It breathes new life into the old game boy collection, and particularly game boy colour games (and I just remembered that very second that I have a copy of Dr Mario! W00+). I was a passenger in a car for two hours today and was stoked to be able to play Battletoads and Tetris in sweet back lit glory!!!

so yeah, I guess I'm behind the times but the GBA SP is radical.

Toys R Us is totally underrated. To me, it seems like most people who shop there are adults buying games for their kids, so the more "hardcore" titles get lost in the shuffle and eventually end up in the discount bin. Which is good for people like us: last time I was there I spotted several sealed copies of Phantasy Star Portable and Baroque for $9.99.

Incidentally, I also picked up a copy of X-Blades one of the last times I was at Toys R Us, for $4.99 I think. 8)

Yeah, Toys R Us is great. It kinda makes me sad that I haven't lived in a city with one for 10 years now.

I love Toys R Us. I got a bunch of nice cases for my DS for $3, Toy Story and stuff. I also got Phantasy Star Portable, but I paid $4.99 for it.

I went to the thrift shop again, probably my last visit before the holidays. I only found Super Mario Bros 2 for the NES for 75 cents and a Zapper Gun for $2.
I passed on a nasty looking NES for $4 and a Gamecube that had a broken piece for $6.

Whenever I shop at the local game store I strategically try to buy a cheap game along with a more expensive game. The reason for this is because the owner generally waives the fee of the cheaper game. For example, today I brought Ys I & II Chronicles and LJN's Major League Baseball up to the counter. Paid $20-something for Ys, but got Major League Baseball for free. Same thing happened one of the last times I shopped there, I got Super Sprint for free because I was buying some pricier Wii game. I have a pretty good system worked out.

Dang. I was of course hoping I had the Japanese equivalent of Stadium Events or something. The fact that they are both text heavy leads to believe they definitely belonged to a missionary, probably trying to learn the language. Japanese books and movies are very common to find here, and I personally know several people who have been on missions to Japan. Still a downright bizarre thing to find in the wild. Thank you very much for the info, I think I will just keep them around as conversation pieces and artifacts of an entirely different universe of video games of which I will never know.
