Dreamcast Pop'n Music Info?

Post by Key-Glyph »

Does anybody have the Pop'n Music titles for Dreamcast? YouTube clips of the DC versions are few and far between, so I'd appreciate any and all thoughts on the songs, gameplay, controllers, etcetera.

I'd love to have a version of this game to play at home, but despite how incredible the Playstation DJdao Arcade Controller is -- and the fact many (possibly all) of the titles have been released for the PS2 -- I want to explore my cheaper options first.

Thanks in advance!

Music series from the folks at Konami, but seperate from the Bemani flagship (don't quote on that last part lo!). On the Dreamcast Four installments were released although Pop'n Music 3 n 4 are more of an expansion disc than a standalone title (must have Pop'n Music 2). Respective Controller for the DC can be a bit harder to obtain than the PS2 version. Another alternative to playing the Pop'n Music series is on the wii as it's the only game ever released In the US (although I hear it sucks lol!).

There was a Pop'n Music game on the Wii? I had no idea.

There is a DS game in the Pop'n Music series called Utacchi. I have it and played it a bit but the music is god fucking awful, which is really a major problem in a fucking rhythm game. You can play it with the touch screen or by singing. "Utacchi" is a combination of the words "uta" (sing) and "touch".

Here's the commercial:

This part I didn't know. Thanks; that's helpful information.

Have you played any of the DC titles yourself? If you have I'd like to hear more of what you thought of the music and gameplay. The DC controller doesn't look to have the same feel as the arcade cabinet at all, which makes me nervous. I don't know how much I'll like it when it's smaller and doesn't involve smacking bubbles.

Ha, that's interesting. I hate using the touch screen for rhythm games though, so there's no danger I'll be buying this (although I appreciate the warning regardless).

Since the controller is the biggest hurdle to getting the DC Pop'n Music games, you might want to get a Playstation controller and then a PS-to-DC adapter. This will also make getting later games in the series easier, since you would only need one controller.

As for song lists, BemaniStyle.com lists the first three: Pop'n 1, Pop'n 2, and Pop'n 3. I can't comment on accuracy and for some reason there's no info on the fourth.
