Hey crew
We had a request to do a Game Gear version of the Games That Pushed The Limits of Graphics and Sound like we did with the Gameboy
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/nintendo ... hics-sound
Obviously, it wouldn't be as long, but does anyone have any recommendations and/or want to help with the writing?

I'm not really into the GG or writing about it, but I can say that Jurassic Park and Panzer Dragoon Portable are pretty impressive.
Older. Not wiser.

Re: Games That Pushed The Limits of the Game Gear
The first games that come to mind are genesis down-ports like Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage 2, and the Jungle Book.
I'll try to find exclusive games that pushed the limits.
Honestly, when you consider the word "exclusive", there's not many exclusives on Game Gear after you consider the Master System. Maybe you should consider writing the article as "Games That Pushed the Limits of the Master System / Game Gear" since the library is so similar.

I'd agree some of the Game Gear ports of Mega Drive games would be good choices. Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Ristar, Streets of rage 2 and ecco the dolphin come to mind for me. Panzer Dragoon Mini has some impressive sprite manipulation if a rather sparse environment. Halley Wars comes to mind for me as a decent shmup with very little slowdown, but whether it actually is an impressive feat i don't know. Some of the sonic games were suprisingly nippy too, such as Sonic Blast and Sonic Triple Trouble. Tempo Junior was a pretty good looking game.

interesting question. I should look over my collection and see what I can remember. Mega Man seemed to be a pretty nice looking title on the game gear. Much better than I was expecting it to be.

Re: Games That Pushed The Limits of the Game Gear
I spent a lot of time this week playing different Game Gear titles. Most of the time I kept thinking to myself, "I'd rather be playing the Genesis version."
One game did stand out graphically from the rest of the pack: Sonic Triple Trouble. Most of the other Sonic Games on this platform are just ports of Master System games (which in turn are poor copies of Genesis games), but Triple Trouble stands heads above the rest. This late release was exclusive to Game gear; not a Master System port. The motion is smoother; the colors are brighter; the enemy sprites are better. The game play is fast and fun, albeit too easy. No other Sonic game on this platform touches Triple Trouble.
That being said, Sonic Chaos isn't too bad. I think Triple trouble is technically a sequel to Chaos, not that there's any need to play them in order. The same thing happens in every Sonic game after-all.

Fatal Fury Special was extremely impressive. Very rich in color, with fluid gameplay. Probably better than any other 2-D fighter on the handheld. Even better than Virtua Fighter, which you may wanna look at as well.
You should also look into Power Strike II. Vertical shmup made by the same people who developed M.U.S.H.A.

Sonic Blast is one of the games that I recall pushed the graphically capabilities of the Gamegear. I'm almost positive this also had a Master System port, so it wouldn't count as an exclusive.

The GG and SMS used the same hardware right? So what pushed the SMS pushes the GG and vice-versa, no?

Gunstar heroes port definitely belongs on there. Just watching one video of it made me start searching for it.
