Christmas gaming with family & friends - what should I play?

Post by s1mplehumar »

I'll be spending an extended weekend with family and friends this Christmas. At minimum I plan on bringing the 64 with x4 controllers for some good old Goldeneye action. 8) Multiplayer games are on the bill of fare for these events. No RPGs, etc....

Feel free to vote on a few of my ideas, or offer some of your holiday multi traditions.

Thanks!

Since youre bringing a N64 take Mario Kart 64, mario party, golden eye, DK 64 (what i like the versus mode on DK64). ANY game that can have a lot of players in the screen so use systems like the N64, gamecube and dreamcast (they all have 4 controller ports). Pick your favorite system, 3 other people and let the party begin 8)

BTW if you have a multitap for a SNES i'll highly recommend Super Bomberman 4 player action :D

I LOVE that game!

N64 has 4 player Dr. Mario.
There's also Pokemon Puzzle League which plays like Tetris Attack. addicting fun.
N64 wrestling games are also awesome when you've got 4 people playing at once.
Super Smash Bros.
Mario Tennis 64

Neo Geo multiplayer pick up and play games I recommend:
Windjammers
Magical Drop
Sengoku 3 (Remember: Everyone loves a good beat em' up  )

Thanks for the recommendations. I had planned on bringing Saturn Bomberman again this year, but maybe I'll mix it up SNES style.

Tell us more about who you'll be playing with? Teens / 20's / Adults who don't game usually, etc?

My folks have a wii (for the grandkids) so rarely play and have like wii play and wii sports, that's it. My brother in law plays a bit, and really the rest do not game at all. So i'll be bringing party game titles, that don't require everyone to be active or even hold a remote:

Elebits
Wordjong
Trivial Pursuit
Agatha Christie Under the Red Sun
Mario Kart
Gravity
Smash Bros.

And that's probably about it.

I'm guessing from your choices there are at least 2 others who game regularly?

A fighter is a good idea (3rd strike) in case only one other person is in the mood.
Virtua Tennis is a solid title and its fun when games like Tennis and Soccer have a good group who are competitive, that could be fun.
Mario Kart is a winner for kids, casuals, and competitives alike - always a must.

I'd be hesitant lugging too much, I find that when I try to bring things like NES or SMS they lose the audience quickly (unless they are rabid gamers) and you spend more time hooking them up than actually playing them. You'll get the, "AWESOME, an original Nintendo, sweet." Followed by, "Hey, did I see Mario Kart 64 in that bag?"

I voted DC (Third Strike)
Shmup (Silkworm)
Arcade (R-Type Leo)

That's all the stuff I'm good and knowledgable at -- good multi-player opportunities too

Those details WOULD be helpful. :) The lion's share of gaming activities will be spent with the "rabid gamers" aka my younger brothers, ages 28 (not quite as rabid), 18, 16, and 14. Christmas evening should be a mixed bag. Last year we had a serious Saturn Bomberman rotation going...children and adults alike. This group is eager is to try just about anything. I'm bringing some standby shooters to play with my old Army buddies, and GE will be played almost exclusively with one of my best friends.

Speaking of Silkworm, Firepower 2000 (snes) is pretty awesome. I've killed several hours playing that game with a friend of mine.
