Gungnir (thread formerly known as Atlus teases a new game)
Re: Atlus teases a new game
Starting to lose interest. Growlanser just looks like a generic Langrisser wannabe, whereas Sting always delivers the goods with some fresh gameplay ideas. I'm not too bothered though, I plan on getting Gungnir either way.

you can read Japanese, or you'd use a guide?brunoafh wrote:Starting to lose interest. Growlanser just looks like a generic Langrisser wannabe, whereas Sting always delivers the goods with some fresh gameplay ideas. I'm not too bothered though, I plan on getting Gungnir either way.

If the Growlanser is more like 2 and 3 and not 5 then it is good. I hear 4 is supposed to be solid thoughbrunoafh wrote:Starting to lose interest. I can read it fairly well. I'll be totally lost story wise, but I won't have a problem reading menus and the simple kanji. Whenever I play a SRPG in Japanese it's pretty much a 100% gameplay experience... which I'm cool with.noiseredux wrote:you can read Japanese, or you'd use a guide?
I'll also check out guides and stuff if need be. There's probably a decent amount of info out there since it's been out for awhile now.

I feel the same way. How did you learn Kanji?brunoafh wrote:I can read it fairly well. I'll be totally lost story wise, but I won't have a problem reading menus and the simple kanji. Re: Atlus teases a new game
Honestly, the main way I became familiar with kanji was through playing games in Japanese. When looking at stats screens and stuff you eventually realize "oh, that kanji must mean accuracy, and that one is evasion". Then you play another SRPG and see the same characters again, and then know what they are. Same goes for skills, menus, abilities, etc. I've also done a bit of independent study over the years just because I'm very fascinated by the culture. And the games.noiseredux wrote:I feel the same way. How did you learn Kanji?

yeah I was thinking of trying to learn a bit of the basics myself. Just because it makes importing a lot easier in cases such as this. But of course, it takes time to learn so...

I know you didn't ask me, but these were the main resources I used specifically for Kanji:noiseredux wrote:I feel the same way. How did you learn Kanji?brunoafh wrote:I can read it fairly well. That's how I got started at least. I have the luxury of working with Japanese instructors and students, so I get immersed in the language (I even teach Japanese to younger kids on occasion).

I've done that exactly once. I got Star Ocean for the 360. Played through it. Hated how terribly the discs were arranged (so if you went between planets you switched discs). Then the exclusivity contract ran out and it came out for the PS3 on one disc and with JP voices available. The US voices are terrible for some of the characters, so at some point I'm going to play through the PS3 version.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Now, people who buy Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the same game....... that I don't get.
