I recently dragged my beloved Saturn out of retirement. After dusting it off and booting up Street Fighter Zero 3 I got a Japanese error message on the screen. The only english characters being RAM. I tried taking out my RAM card, giving it all a bit of a dust off and putting it back - the error continued after numerous reboots.
Eventually I gave up and booted up Radiant Silvergun which as far as I could remember never needed RAM. When I booted it up, I got a very similar message - a bunch of Japanese with the characters RAM nestled in there. I might be wrong, but I was pretty much certain that it never needed it because it was the first Saturn game I ever got and I'm sure I didn't have RAM at the time.
I've so far tried:
SFZ3
Radient Silvergun
Capcom Streetfighter Collection
King of Fighters 97
Virtua On
Gunsmoke/Commandos Collection
and Saturn Bomberman
The only game that will boot up without a RAM error is Bomberman. Since this is the only game I've tried that was origionally PAL it lead me to think that there might be a problem with my mult-region chip, but the games are mostly converted to be U.S. region anyway.
Has anyone got any idea what could be causing the problem? I'd really like to get my Saturn back to it's former glory! Thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. It's probably not relevent but for the sake of clarity:
UK Saturn - Modded with a 50/60hz switch, plays backups and all regions.
Internal battery is dead so every time you boot up it asks for time.date.
Saturn RAM error - Help!
your memory battery is full.
sorta looks like that?

215? That's not bad but, it's time to bone up on kanji my friend.Anayo wrote:It's frustrating to be a gamer and know only 215 kanji. -.-
Try White Rabbit Press kanji cards for nicely made flash cards and a real easy way to study.
That's the gist of it.vlame wrote:the screen i posted is saying "the game needs 16 blocks to save, press start to not save".

Get a screen cap and I'll read it for ya.electric_wizard wrote:Thanks for the screen - but it's not that one.
Like I say, they all feature the characters 'RAM' somewhere on the page. I'll try and get a screen shot if it'll help.
Though, more than likely, it's just another games' version of the same screen.

That would be incredibly helpful - thanks very much!Get a screen cap and I'll read it for ya. Wink

I must say that I really don't think it is the same message - mostly because it won't let me continue without saving. Also, I've seen those low memory messages a million times and they almost always have numbers in. In fact I believe the one shown above is the one used by Capcom and it is different from the message I got from all the Capcom games I tried....
Anyway, I'll try and pinch my housemate's Camera and get a shot of it.
Thanks again guys.
