Re: Sega Genesis Glitches
yanking wont kill your consoles. like previously mentioned, you aint giving your system an "apple a day", but as long as you dont leave it on forever like that and hire a fat guy to sit on your console nothing too ludicrous will happen. remember, glitches are usually found by doing odd things.

Just because it hasn't damaged yours yet doesn't mean it isn't bad for the Genesis.friedrice007 wrote:yanking wont kill your consoles.

Re: Sega Genesis Glitches
Not related to yanking out carts or swapping carts, but I found a glitch in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when I was a kid that meant Sonic could 'fly' in act 2 of the Wing Fortress zone. I've never seen this glitch mentioned anywhere on the net or in magazines, but I can't imagine I was the only one to find it...
It's been a long time since I've played the game, but I think it was in a certain one of those "lifts" that can be seen in the image below, if you wait till you're at the top and wait a short while, then try walking forward and you'll just keep walking as if there is ground beneath you.

...that was a gimmick in the level... anyways, here's a famous yank glitch, which may have been intended:

Re: Sega Genesis Glitches
i clearly said it isnt the best for the console. but it aint dropping a turd on the console either. it was for expirimental porpuses. a glitch was found. maybe you should learn to read an entire post before you restate exactly what i previously posted.Hobie-wan wrote:Just because it hasn't damaged yours yet doesn't mean it isn't bad for the Genesis.friedrice007 wrote:yanking wont kill your consoles.

Re: Sega Genesis Glitches
Is there any evidence for this? I've been reading warnings in manuals for years that pulling carts and doing other weird stuff "may damage your system", but I've yet to hear what kind of damage can actually happen.Hobie-wan wrote:Just because it hasn't damaged yours yet doesn't mean it isn't bad for the Genesis.friedrice007 wrote:yanking wont kill your consoles.
These 16 bit and older consoles don't have a lot that can go wrong with them. They either work, don't work, or have some sort of mechanical problem with the buttons. So unless there are people out there who have outright killed their Genesii by removing carts the wrong way, I'm inclined to believe that there's no way it can "hurt" your Genesis.

Re: Sega Genesis Glitches
You could cross the connection on pins if you don't pull it out straight and send voltage down a data line or something. It wouldn't surprise me if this sort of thing would erase a game that saves data. Capacitors can go bad from being shocked abnormally. Like people that abuse their cars by dumping the clutch and putting the gas to the floor all the time coupled with panics stops, your car may still start fine tomorrow, but it will affect the long term reliability.
If you guys want to hasten the death of your stuff I guess that's your perogative. I'll point and laugh when you are looking for another one and will be sad that a console is broken. I'll also remember to never trade with you so I don't get damaged stuff or send things off to be abused.

Re: Sega Genesis Glitches
everything you said was a "could", might as well say rolex watches could crawl out of my butt. there really isnt any documented cases of cartridge damage from this. the cartridges says dont clean with alcohol, but that is fine for the cartridge. your telling me that from a cartridge carefully being removed once when the system was on, that if i sit down and stare at my console it will implode on itself eventually and fire will burst out of it. have you had any part of discovering awesome glitches, no. so go back to your bedroom and blow on some cartridges and organize your noob collection. while your at it learn how to spell "prerogative."Hobie-wan wrote:You could cross the connection on pins if you don't pull it out straight and send voltage down a data line or something.
