Even so, they're still just about the best place to go for older Playstation 2 games. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is just $5, as is Zone of Enders (complete with MGS2 demo). The PS2 has such a large library and there are a lot of good under appreciated games that have fallen to those prices. Try buying them on ebay and you'll pay that much on shipping alone.

I have to agree that the prices on older PS2 games are decent, but the condition is so variable that I find it generally disapointing. They resurface alot of disks too which makes me wary that I'll play through half of the game only to hit a bad spot on the disk and have it freeze up on me. I'm also annoyed that they don't place any value on the cover art and manuals. Occassionly I'll find something good, but most of the time even if I do it's in bad shape, it's missing the cover art, or the manuals are ripped or have some odd colored/smelling stains.

you should have taken the gc back to the store and gotten a fresh cable. I got screwed with a gamestop controller instead of a 1st party deal.
They don't test games that they buy anymore. I remember back when they had test machines set up, but that's just not classy or clean enough for their sleek new look...I take scratched/dead/fubar'ed discs all the time that I pick up from thrift stores. They're supposed to resurface everything that comes through the store, so I guess by betting and probability, that system is more cost effective than the alternative...

I've been frequenting the local Gamestops in order to improve on the collection of Gamecube games I missed out on. Until I got the Wii, I didn't own a current-gen console since the PSone. The prices are really good, but it's often hard to find a used game that's complete.
One purchase I regret is the Sonic Mega Collection. My 5 year old son and I went there with intention of each buying a game. He discovered the Mega Collection, but it didn't have the original box and artwork. Being a kid, he didn't care so I got it for him. Now I have a pretty decent collection of Gamecube games, marred only by that one stupid Gamestop case! Not long after buying it, I even saw a complete copy, sitting on the shelf, mocking me.

In those situations I usually just buy the second copy and sell the one i first got buy-it-now on ebay. i might eat a couple bucks in the process, but i'm proud to own no greatest hits games with almost all of my disc games complete.

so, buy the second(complete) copy - then return the one without the artwork with your receipt from the complete one and you're golden.
