buying PS2
Fat or slim? Any other info on the system is much appreciated. Thank you!
Re: buying PS2
Personally, I'd say get a slim. You can get the modem built in, it's smaller, pop open lid (meaning less likely the disc tray will break).
Re: buying PS2
do you plan on modding it or anything like that? If so I would go with the Fat, you can add a hard drive and run Free McBoot with it. You will need to shell out a few extra bucks for the Network adapter though, but the Fat ones are cheaper to boot. Older ones could cause the Disc Read Error that was so wide spread as well (everyone I knew with a ps2 back in the day had this issue at one time or another)
If you dont care about that the slim might be a better choice for you, it comes with the network adapter built in if you plan on playing online. They cost a little more too. I might be misinformed but I believe I heard that there are some rare compatibility issues with the slim also.

Re: buying PS2
there are many different models of slims and fatties.
My original fattie became unreliable about two years ago. Now it only plays when it wants to. My buddy has fiddled with lazers and other things on it, and he still currently has it. I now have a Slim.
From what I can tell there are some different types of slim PS2's. Some early PStwo's use a yellow tipped plug similar to the ones used on the later PSones. Later ones (like the one I have now) Use the classic cords found on pretty much all newer consoles.
There are some games that are known not to play or play erratically on either system. I'm sure others here know more about them.
It is possible to repair the lazers on the fatty when they arent working right and some fatties are easier to mod than the newer slims. So anythings possible.
You could just get both too.

Re: buying PS2
Get the fatty because it's compatible with all PS2 games, and more PS1 games than the Slim.
The last PS2 Slim made available actually isn't compatible with quite a few PS2 games.

Re: buying PS2
a lot of the compatability problems are not as simple as "fat vs slim," but rather specific model numbers of each.
