How to store original boxes....?

I just bought a bunch of SNES and N64 games. Some complete, some new and some cart (some with manual) only. I plan to do the whole http://www.thecoverproject.net/ thing (got the cases in the mail).

The NIB games i got are def not rare (Perfect Dark and F-Zero SNES) so i plan to open them

My question is how do i store the cardboard boxes..? Is breaking them down and storing them flat ok? Any other ideas?

I have some flat and some just boxes stored away. I have all the carts loose so I can play them without having to touch the boxes.

Only issue with flat storing them is they take a while to be coaxed back into the right shape.

I just found a cabinet or closet to put my game boxes in.

I just have them all in a storage box in a drawer underneath my bed. They haven't been damaged yet.

Rubbermaid storage under the bed and in spare bed room.

Make sure you put them in something that keeps out bugs!! Not saying you're dirty or anything, but bugs of all kinds like to eat the paper and glue. I suggest a big plastic bin you can seal up. The other key thing is to keep away sunlight and UV rays. They will discolor the boxes and futher the degredation of the paper.

If you are really paticular use an acid free mat board or barrier paper in between each row of games. My guess is that most of these game boxes aren't made with ph neutral of acid free paper so over time they may yellow a bit. Layering them with an acid free paper or board with keep them from spreading the acid and help absorb and neutralize it. Also make sure you clean of any dirt and remove any stickers and labels before stroring them. The adhesive in the stickers and labels leave residue and will spread it to other boxes.

I would not suggest putting them flat unless you are running out of space or shipping them. Pulling the tabs out and putting them back in will losen the tabs fittings up and make the boxes pop open alot easier. But if you only do it once or twice and are really careful it should be ok!

The game boxes were put in cabinets that I use pretty often so I was able to check on them often. Thankfully, I don't really have any game boxes (except for PC games which are sealed up ATM) so I don't have to worry.
