Corporations will cut corners and stamp out "that human touch" in the name of capitalism.
It is still up to your local store to follow those Draconian rules or not.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Honestly I think it probably has even more to do with employees just really not giving a shit.

Sure, most employees with zero personal stake (financial or emotional) in their company will not provide good service. This affects the whole chain of command in the company. You end up with regional managers who don't care, hiring local managers who don't care, hiring clerks who don't care. The only thing driving any of these people is the desire to not get fired, and some of them probably don't even have that much ambition!

I'm not sure if this has ever been brought up in this thread before, but did you guys realize that the BBB has given Gamestop, Inc. an A+ rating?

Lol, well I know when I ran my store back in the day we would really try to give A+ service.....more in the terms of job security though lol....we would wait until the customers left the store before the trash talking came out, but I think it was more of a stress relief.....GameStop is one stressful job...well...any retail is really.

Well this weekend I got Gamestop to ship a copy of Radiant Historia over 260 miles to a store near my location (was pretty much the only available copy within like 3 states). Took less than a week to get here, called me up and I was able to pick it up without hassle. I've definitely had some problems with Gamestop, and I hate how they gut new games (especially SE copies) but lately I've definitely had some luck finding games in the condition I've wanted, that would cost much more to purchase on amazon or ebay. So it's definitely not all bad.

The Good :D
THIS. The best way to get a very uncommon game at a good price. Gamestop has a great online site for checking availability. I have found games simply by entering random zip codes at home, then go to the local Gamestop to call and ship the game. It is best to go on a weekday early morning when the store is near empty. This frees up the employee to call and find a far away game CIB.

The Bad :?
A brand new Gamestop opened less then a week ago nearby. This is actually good with a very clean store and well in stock. The Bad is NO GBA, PS2 or Gamecube games or accessories! The only Gamecube related component is peg hooks full of the Gamestop Pelican Wii/Gamecube controllers. These will go on clearance soon.

The Ugly
Reality sets in, PS2 and Gamecube days are numbered. I hope they would last longer, Soon PS2 and Gamecube games will no longer be traded in and the remaining games will sell thru. Load up while you can.

Oh no, you mean soon Gamestop won't be able to take ps2 games traded in that are CIB and just toss the case and manual away? How horrible!

I know, it's awful. I'm practically crying right now, because I won't be able to buy PS2 discs that were used as coasters anymore.
