Thoughts on Buying Newer Consoles from Pawn Shops...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Thoughts on Buying Newer Consoles from Pawn Shops...

Post by racketboy »

Would you ever consider buying a newer console like a 360 or PS3 from a pawn shop?
What would be a good price?

Just would like to hear your opinions...

I figure, if I'm going to buy an expensive newer console, unless it was half price, I'd rather get it new because it'd have the manufacturers warranty, and it'd be factory fresh (no possibilities of stinky smoke or sticky Cheeto anything).
The best price I've seen for a PS3 was $330 (inc.tax)... Still wasn't cheap enough.

Ive only ever bought a current gen console second hand once and that was goaferboys old 360. That was only because he was selling it cheap aswell. At the moment im just waiting for it to get the red ring so I can get it repaired for free because I get soooo many errors.

If it hadnt been a very good deal I wouldnt have bought one second hand, you dont usually get a significant enough discount from new to preowned to make it worth it for me. Plus as new consoles (mostly 360 of course) dont seem to be built particularly well you may not get much time at all with a preowned one before it breaks.

Most pawn shop don't offer a warranty or even a return policy, so buy at your own risk. I'd probably never buy a 360 or ps2 from a pawn shop unless it were super cheap.

I bought my 360 off of Craigslist w/ Gears of War (LE), 1 wireless, 20 GB harddrive for $225. There was even a special surprise waiting in the disc tray for me.....free game! (Halo 3)
It did give me the 3 red lights error 4 months ago, but my refurb has been great so far.

As much as I love my 360, I would hesitate to recommend buying a new one, much less a used one the way they're breaking down. Of course the more recent ones are better. I got my PS3 used because it was the only way I could get a 60GB model.

Considering the RRoD rate for the Xbox360 and that I'm on my third PS3, I wouldn't buy a newer console from a pawn shop. Now games, as long as their not scratched, their fine.
