Retro Extravaganza

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Retro Extravaganza

Post by lordofduct »

I need to elect the retro clans help.

My friend Bonnet came to me and was like "I want a old school video game party... and call it Mario Party Party". The name made me cringe, and the Nintendo theme made me angry... but with some pestering I got it turned into a "Retro Console Mascot Extravaganza". I just have to still call it that title.

Anyways, we're going to be hooking up the Wii with a ton of games. Because well, Wii is the best for quick pick up and play multiplayer games. I don't want stupid Halo death matches and crap.

The rules we've set up so far are:

Must be dressed in costume of a 16-bit or earlier era video game character (Sonic, Mario, Lemming, Kid Chameleon... etc.)
Games can only be retro games, or retro themed games (Smash Brothers, Wario Ware, Mario Party, etc. will be allowed. No Guitar Hero, Dance Dance, or Halo).
Music will be mostly music from my "game music" collection.

SO:

I need some suggestions on the music I should play. What other requirements to keep a strict retro feel. Etc.

Keep in mind, most of these people aren't much of the retro gamer type. The only retro they know is Mario. And it is more then just a gaming party... my house parties usually collect from 100 to 300 people partying their asses off. So I need to tie the nerdy to the poppy. HELP!

I don't have any music recs, but here are my wife's instructions for making a mario or luigi hat. That might be useful for someone's costume.

I second OC Remix. They have some funky techno remixes that'd be great for a party.
