You have to run it via an elf launcher like uLaunchElf, which is an elf as well. I did however convert ULE to a CD/DVD image a while back maybe you can burn and boot it.

First to make your ps2 boot a cd you MUST have a SYSTEM.CNF File. (we are making it)

Copy and paste into Notepad

BOOT2 = cdrom0:\HDADVANCE.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = PAL/NTSC

Change the ELF to the ELF you have.
Save it as SYSTEM.CNF

Then Get CDGen 3.0

Put the following files in the CDGen - SYSTEM.CNF, ELF and a dummy file

Make an ISO or Bin/Cue and burn

If this doesn't please you, you're on your own.

Some updated pics. The USB Thumb Drive isnt needed to boot the exploit, but it saves me memory card space by using it, so I do.

This whole project confuses me and I'm not willing to go through a 51 page thread to understand it. So from what I gather this makes a memory card that enables me to boot backup disks right? Do I need swap magic in order to make this though?

The exploit was made for booting homebrew. Not backups. It just so happens that there are homebrew tools out there that CAN boot backups. The exploit simply has the unintentional ability to interrupt the PS2 after it has loaded the initial regional and copy protection sectors off a retail game, so that you can swap to another game, and finish the boot process using a seperrate tool like cogswap.elf, psxlauncher.elf, or an elf version of Swap Magic.

But anyway, if you aren't willing to do your homework, not only is this exploit beyond your ability, PS2 piracy as a whole is as well. There is a LOT to learn if you really wish to push your PS2 to it's limits. I've spent countless hours studying the piracy and homebrew scenes for this machine, and it's easily 5x more complicated than any other console before it.

Hey I have a couple questions.

1) I already have the Independance Exploit. I can't remember which card it's on and what the file is called. Is it invisible? I suppose I could just pull out each mem card and try the trigger disc, but I was wondering if it's copiable.

2) Does your ISO come with Free MCBoot and HDLoader? I completely forgot how to add elf files to my existing exploit. I assume there's no way to copy Free MCBoot on to a pre-exploited card? Has to be from scratch, correct?

3) Could one use swapmagic elfs with this or does one not need them (for backups & imports)?

I did all teh studying you referenced above, then had a brainfart and forgot it all. I'm a pretty smart guy (I like to think), and just a nudge in the right direction should bring it all back to me.

Also, thanks for your efforts in this thread:

I already own swap magic and I do ok with the trigger disc. Is it worth the extra effort for this mod? I mostly want it because I worry about my laser dying, and I use HDloader to swap between all the beatmania games without having to switch disks.

I havent done the indy exploit in years so I forget. I'm quite sure the files are visible.

That ISO I posted is merely ULE on CD which would let you do the initial install of the exploit. The exploit will then install ULE on your mem card to serve as the boot menu.

3) Could one use swapmagic elfs with this or does one not need them (for backups & imports)?

In my tests, SwapMagic 3.8 DVD ELF is the most reliable way to boot copied DVD games using this exploit. Cogswap works well, but a few games didnt work on it. Just remember you need to boot with a retail game in the ps2 first, exploit runs, run SM ELF, swap to copy, run it.

Is it worth the extra effort for this mod? I mostly want it because I worry about my laser dying, and I use HDloader to swap between all the beatmania games without having to switch disks.

Obviously, it's worth it for the reason you stated.
