which guitar hero game do you think is the best if i only wanna play guitar and i'm not interested in dlc?

i was thinking either guitar hero 3 cuz of its sweet track list & battle modes, or guitar hero 5 cuz i heard you could import songs from the other games via disc..is that true? if so i could probably just rent another entry in the series and copy the songs over

You still have to pay a small licensing fee

I think the most obvious choice is Guitar Hero Smash Hits. It contains the best songs from the first three games and doesn't have DLC. The songs in the first three games are guitar focused, as it was before they added the full band, although they did go back and add parts for the other instruments if you are so inclined.

Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s for me! It has the smallest track list by far, but had more songs I enjoyed playing then any of the others.

I would vote for Guitar Hero III - the pinnacle of the series imo because then they went to the full band mode like rock band. I loved GH III and also the re-release of Guitar hero II for the 360 (had a number of new tracks plus a cool guitar).

I played a lot of the original Rock Band but interest in the series died off with all the releases and overkill.

They didn't go full band until World Tour, which was Guitar Hero 4. In 3 you could only play guitar.

The 3rd Guitar Hero is the best... but honestly, after playing Rock Band, I would always recommend that. Harmonix is the original creator of the GH series, and when they left to create Rock Band, you could really tell...because GH just lost it's way.

Plus I just love how RB continues to be updated. Just this week I downloaded new songs by Queen, Dream Theater and Opeth!
