Just popped in DoDonPachi Resurrection... dear god what have I been missing out on??? After I'm through with this the hunt for more Cave shmups is on. I see that Espgaluda II and Mushihime-sama Futari are region free and relatively inexpensive. They also have some PS2 games that are much more expensive. Ibara seems to be a cheap one though, perhaps I'll give that a shot. Mushihime-sama seems to be the hardest to acquire (or at least the most costly).

Definitely, great dev. I can see how you draw similarities between Compile and Hudson shmups too.

What Compile games have you played so far? I trust you've played Musha Aleste? That's probably their best go, although Spriggan Mk. II and Zanac x Zanac are also greatness. All of their games are worth a go honestly.

Soldier Blade for the TG16 is very much like a Compile game by Hudson. It has the "SC" in the corner for score, and you only power down one level when you get hit, and also the adjustable ship speed.

I know the question isn't for me, but I've done Zanac, Space Megaforce, Gun Nac, and my all time favorite, GUARDIAN LEGEND -- Compile ROCKS

Brunoath, I highly recommend Futari. For the price it can't be beat, and is easily in my top 5 shmups ever. Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets is also region free, and a must have imo. They, along with Ibara and and Dai Fukkatsu Black Label, are designed by Yagawa, not IKD (who does most of the cave stuff), so they are very different, and more similar to Battle Garegga than Dodonpachi (aside dfk, which is too unique to compare)

I have played MUSA, along with some Zanac on the nes and space megaforce on the snes. Not sure which is my favorite yet, but musha was quite good. I need to try guardian legend and zanac x zanac.

Oh and where'd you see Ibara for cheap? I've never paid so much for a game! I paid less for a LE copy of Mushihimesama.

Oops, turns out it is extremely expensive. I did a quick eBay search for "ibara ps2" and the first game was "Simoun Ibara Sensou" for cheap. Searched again and looked more carefully and the cheapest one is 150+. I think for now I'll try out their other 360 games.

It's weird that I'm just now getting into Cave stuff, as Toaplan are my favorite shmup devs of all time. The DoDonPachi games seem like straight up Batsugun sequels, which is awesome.

Is there such a thing as a list that grades shooters on difficulty?...

Still playing Giga Wing 2 and still dying at the beginning of level 6... :|

Score has gone up quite a bit though. Managed to score +685.000.000.000.000 points in level one once...

Max points overall: +3.000.000.000.000.000
