Is 200$ way overpriced for a Sega CDX system with games?

No, Genesis adapters have incorrect power rating. The CDX type is unmistakable. Unique shape and model number, also specifically mentions CDX by name on its label. Blindfolded one would still be able to feel a difference from their ridge pattern.

This one's a Sony with somewhat different specifications from what's listed on there. Any chance a generic usable replacement is available commonly from The Source or a similar electronics shop? What about a universal ac?
EDIT: awwww crap there better be, these things are stupid expensive on ebay
EDIT: looked in to it a bit...the ac adapter I have is underpowered so there shouldn't be a risk of frying the thing, but it can damage the system after prolonged use. I also found this, which apparently works fine

Yeah I believe a handful of third party solutions are out there. The adapter I showed is just the sole CDX type created/approved/supported by Sega America. They did not release any others of their own.
Though JVC X'eye uses extremely similar ratings, whether it's safe long term hasn't been confirmed.

Like the claw said, avoid using a Genesis power supply (even though it fits) because it will screw up the CDX's ability to read Sega CD games. Getting the CDX AC is imperative.
