Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Forgot to post this here, but better late than never I suppose.

Went to GS on Black Friday to pick up a Black Mario Kart Wii bundle because they were running a special where Metroid: Other M came free with it. I saw it on their website on Thanksgiving so I decided that I'd get there before they sold out. Went in, talked to the (extremely cute yet extraordinarily ditzy) girl at the counter and she went and pulled out their last system and I said "wait, doesn't that come with Metroid: Other M included?" She said "LOLIDUNNO, LEMME ASK" so the manager comes over to her and she explains that I asked for a free game as part of a promotion. The manager proceeded to deny the promotion saying that they won't offer it based on hearsay. I tell him that I saw the special online and he refused to look it up on their computer so I pulled out my phone and showed him the blurb on their website. He still didn't believe me so he rung up the two items in an attempt to shut me up and Other M registered as free. He was pissed, but I was glad to finally stick it to the assholes at my GS.

I would definitely take advantage of the feedback link and identifying the manager. The worst ratings you give, the more of a red flag it raises..and they do get read.

this is true. I wonder if the glowing ones get read, too? Honestly, I often complete those feedback surveys. But I very seriously do it just as much when a GS employee goes out of their way to help me, as when another is a dick.

I hope so. If I do receive excellent service I'll make sure to note it (like the one time I found a naked Gradius III & IV case and instructions without stickers and the employee combed through all the loose PS2 games and found my disc).

Lately, I have been giving a lot of praise to different employees. My way of thanking them. The direct bypass the normal survey gets better results. It has that check box for a District manager to contact me, this makes the employee's bosses aware.

I don't know why all the fire is aimed directly at Gamestop employees, its mostly Corporate policy with the sales pitches and case toss out. There may be a few bad apples, however most I have met go out of their way to help me. I think most of the employees do care about games, they are like any other hourly employee trying to earn enough to pay the monthly bills.

I have read that December 31st of this year Gamestop will start phasing out PS2 and Gamecube games. Any one else read or heard about this?

Some local gamestops no longer carry PS2 or Gamecube games.

i remember the funcoland days....then eventually EB games came about....then some where out of the blue GS (they bought out funcoland) and they merged (they = GS and EB) or some thing to that effect was the order any how

Actually, NeoStar Retail (Babbage's, Software Etc., and Funcoland) changed names to GameStop after spinning off from Barnes and Noble in 2004. Babbage's and Software Etc. merged in '94 and were named NeoStar (though that name wasn't used on company stores), then merged with FuncoLand in 2000. EB was bought out in 2005.

Nope. The closest GS is 10 min away whereas the closest Toys R Us is 1 hr away. Anyways, I'll pick the CPP with MGS 3d.
