Re: Funny Anti-Piracy video
People worked hard on these movies, games, etc. How would you like it if you worked say, restoring a car, then the person said they wouldn't pay you because they didn't think your work was worth anything, and drove off with the car. How is that remotely fair?Inazuma wrote:Here we go...RyaNtheSlayA wrote:It doesn't give you a right to just take it for free though. That's the whole point. Nobody cares if you don't want to spend money on something, whatever, but, people do care that you're taking something that you don't have the right to take.
Please explain why it's wrong to pirate a movie you would have never bought. Give me an actual reason or explanation, besides just saying that "it's wrong" or "it's illegal".
You're taking something without giving anything back basically. These people don't work for free, and you're denying them compensation for their work. If it's not worth your money, then why even bother downloading it? Not only is it disrespectful to the people that actually bought these things (if there were no piracy there would be no DRM), it's also extremely disrespectful to the people that made them.
I don't really care what you do. Download what you want, but, don't try to justify it.
Older. Not wiser.

No, it doesn't. You still own it. If someone buys your movie on a DVD or pirates it off the internet, you still own it. They bought/pirated a copy. They don't own the rights to the IP.General_Norris wrote:It does have the harm of removing my ownership over my own work.Inazuma wrote:Legally, yes. You are right and I am not arguing about that. If I worked on restoring a car and then my customer changed his mind and didn't pay for it, that would harm me, wouldn't it? That's a terrible analogy.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:People worked hard on these movies, games, etc. How would you like it if you worked say, restoring a car, then the person said they wouldn't pay you because they didn't think your work was worth anything, and drove off with the car. You have no ability to think for yourself. All you can do is blindly obey the law, regardless of morality. Watch, I'll prove it.
Is it OK for me to visit a friend's house and watch one of his movies there? By your logic, this would be wrong because I never paid for the movie. However, according to the law, it would be perfectly OK. Did your head explode yet?

Oh look, another piracy/anti-piracy thread. Oh look again, Inazuma trying to give the same tired, debunked argument again and again, and ignoring any responses to it.

My argument was never debunked, and I am replying to every response. You are completely wrong.AmishSamurai wrote:Oh look, another piracy/anti-piracy thread. Oh look again, Inazuma trying to give the same tired, debunked argument again and again, and ignoring any responses to it.
You are just upset that you are incapable of arguing with me on this, so you have to resort to personal attacks. Shameful. That sort of childish tactic won't work on me.

Don't forget producers hate the resale market too.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:(if there were no piracy there would be no DRM)
Inazuma, I can't think of a way downloading a game you will never buy financially hurts the creator.
The trouble is you can't make statements like that about the future. You can't be 100% sure you'll never ever buy something. We have no idea how reality would've played out if you didn't download whatever it was. Maybe you would've broken your boycotts eventually. Maybe you'll end up buying them someday still. It is simply impossible to say.

Oh look, Inazuma's tired response that says "See I'm right because I'm right and I ignore any counterpoints provided to me that I don't already agree with."Inazuma wrote:My argument was never debunked, and I am replying to every response. Should I just lock this bullshit that will go down the same road we've been down before? This should have been posted in the video link thread anyway, but trimming off the following comments will make it wonky and I don't want to tarnish the video thread with this crap.

Not exactly. I said my point, and no one actually tried to explain why it's wrong. We aren't have a proper discussion at all. Just because I point that out, doesn't make me guilty of personal attacks.AmishSamurai wrote:You mean personal attacks like:Inazuma wrote: You are just upset that you are incapable of arguing with me on this, so you have to resort to personal attacks.

By the way, you have yet to say anything about why my point on this topic is wrong, and continue with the personal attacks. Oh there I go, with my "personal attacks" again. You got me good. I guess this means everything I said about piracy is wrong too, right?
If you don't want to join the discussion or aren't capable of doing so, butt out. Mindlessly slinging shit around only makes you look foolish.

Where did I ignore counterpoints? Don't blame me for other people's lack of debating skills. You are letting your personal opinion of me affect your moderating ability, Hobie.Hobie-wan wrote:Oh look, Inazuma's tired response that says "See I'm right because I'm right and I ignore any counterpoints provided to me that I don't already agree with."
