when i boot up my softmodded xbox, it either boots normally into the executer rocks my xbox splash screen and i can go about my business, or what seems to happening more and more, is either
1. error 13
2. error 21
3. original factory M$ dash
4. original m$ dash "disk is dirty and cannot be used" screen
i don't know if there are some "ghost" files from the HDD upgrade still left hanging around, but hoping there is a fix besides starting the
softmod install all over again. Can anyone help?
softmodded xbox random issues
Re: softmodded xbox random issues
how did u mod it? how long ago? try a clean mod with sid 5.1 with xbmc. seems like your system has bad connections on top of a bad mod. possibly the hdd is dying? has it been opened?
if you redo the mod nothing will be gone but your settings, all of your saves should be fine.

sure hope the hdd isn't dying....
i just installed a few months back a 2 TB SATA and just now finally getting around to setting up my emulators and such.
iirc i softmodded it with AID (the latest version) which had a nice option for hard drive upgrades.
so if i chose to reinstall the softmod, none of my data would be erased, just the settings??
you wouldn't suggest i format the disk before reinstalling?

Re: softmodded xbox random issues
well, as far as i know the stock bios can't utilize 2tb of space but i have never used AID installer, only SID 5.
i have also never swapped HDDs with a larger one. how did you get the sata to work in the xbox?
theoretically, anything you placed on the hdd should stay if you don't format and just re-install. and about formatting, did AID format the new HDD for you?
error 13 is caused by not having dash 5960 installed BEFORE modding. did you install AID with an exploitable game? how long ago was AID updated? err 31 is caused by installing a dsah that is not compatible with your Micro$oft dash.
error 21 is general "who knows?" error.

Re: softmodded xbox random issues
i used an IDE to SATA adapter that fits nice 'n snug in the case.
i have to go back thru my notes to see if AID formatted before the softmod. i would think i should just to be sure there
are no "gremlins" left over from the prior install.
Actaully, AID did the whole job for me and made it pretty easy, no exploitable game needed.
maybe it's the unleashx version i'm using that is throwing the error 13??

I have used xbmc for years with no problem. How did you get the exploit onto the Xbox in the first place?alexis524 wrote:i used an IDE to SATA adapter that fits nice 'n snug in the case.

Re: softmodded xbox random issues
AID handles the whole thing via a "one click install. you should take a look. it's really easy. Before i decided to use AID, i had the option of using HDM to mod the HDD without a game exploit. All one needs is a clean set of m$ dash files, your eeprom, and HDM takes care of formatting, installing and partitioning your drives for you.
The softmod scene has come a long way since the Splinter Cell/Mech Assault exploit.

Re: softmodded xbox random issues
this is an old thread, but am forced to revisit since i thought that the random errors i was getting i could live with, but i've invested too much in this xbox to have it work correctly part of the time.
Vlame, i'm thinking of re-installing the exploit. To answer your question form earlier as to how did i install the exploit? I flashed my TSOP, then used Auto Installer Deluxe, which is nearly identical in form and function to SID's. IIRC, i simply burned AID to a CD-R, booted it with the larger HDD, and it installed everything for me. I'm going to see if anyone posted a youtube video of the whole process to see if i can just install the dash files and NOT format my drives.
To bring everyone up to date, i'm getting a random error 13, random error 21, and random booting to M$ stock dash, sometimes the text on screen will either be jumbled, or 90% gone with random letters strewn here and there, AND at timesmy F&G drives will not be detectable (not often though). I have a hunch it may the the IDE>SATA adapter, but not entirely sure. Any help you or anyone else can offer is greatly appreciated.

Re: softmodded xbox random issues
It would be nice if you had a regular IDE drive to try with and see if you get the same errors. Then you can confirm or rule out the SATA->IDE converter.
