Arthur Christmas. Absolutely loved it! The grandad santa is a great character and I liked the statement on technology taking over.

A Diva's Christmas Carol is a modern reimagining of the Dickensian classic. Replacing withered skinflint Ebeneezer is the popular musician Ebony Scrooge (her surname is only mentioned once or twice), with Kathy Griffin, Duran Duran's John Taylor and an episode of Behind the Music serving as the three Christmas Spirits.

This is a tradition of mine, which celebrates its airing on VH1 11 years ago tomorrow.

I have the DVD, this year, though the DVD is quite lacking. No special features, no commentary, no subtitles, just the movie itself. And the transfer has its flaws.

And speaking of adaptations of the classic:

Definitely not one of my fave versions of ACC, and much of the visuals seem to simply pimp out the 3D.

Good, but not Argento's best.

I finally watched Batman Year One and, not surprisingly, it was excellent. I mean really, they pretty much knock almost all of these Batman movies out of the park. They've got it down to a science. The voice actor for Batman isn't my ideal choice though. He sounds way too serious even for Batman, but part of that is the dialog too, which is very serious in tone. So it didn't bother me that much. I think I prefer the guy they used in Under the Red Hood and the Young Justice cartoon though. Minor Gripe, the guy didn a decent enough job in this movie

Jim Gordon is a total badass in this movie. I don't remember if he was this awesome in the actual Year One comic. I really enjoy seeing other characters get to shine in a Batman story.

Catwoman felt shoehorned into the story though, similar to how she feels shoehorned into the Batman Arkham City video game's story. Again, it's been a while since I read the Batman: Year One comic, so maybe she was used the same way in the comic. Lately, I'm just finding Catwoman to be such a lame character. I read the first two issues of her New 52 comic, saw her in this movie and in the Arkham City video game and you know what? I've never hated her character in the past, but lately, I don't really like her at all. Maybe something has changed as I've gotten older, but I really can't stand Catwoman anymore. She comes across as a bunch of cliches and marketing tactics rather than an actual character that you can relate to or give a crap about. Really one of the weakest characters in the Bat Universe and hard to really appreciate with better, more interesting female characters out there like Talia, Batwoman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy(who is very interesting in the new Birds of Prey comic)

Pretty much agree with you on every single point. And the guy you're talking about that does Batman's voice for Under the Red Hood and Young Justice is none other than Bruce mutha-effin Greenwood.

Although, I understand going with that young punk in the Year One cartoon because Bruce is supposed to be in his early 20s, I think? Maybe 25? Bruce actually sounds like an older Batman, much like Kevin Conroy.

Recently saw “Rise of the Planet of the Apes " and of course it was a disappointment. This is due to the scale of the whole movie plot and locals. This time around it felt more contained and concentrated and only affected a small portion of the population.

There was no great battle, no concern for the human population and no true fear or sense of danger.
Let’s just say the most or only action pack part of this lackluster was a group of Apes battling it out with the cops.

Do the math – Fully equip cops + Apes w/ no equipment and lack of knowledge of technology = ??

My Score

o Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011 film), 5.8/10
o Planet of the Apes (2001 film), 7.5/10

Save your money and rent it at best.

DARK KNIGHT RISES: Prologue.

I posted about operation early bird in the Batman thread, not sure if anyone else participated. There was a rep from Warner there who asked for feedback after the screening, and other than Bane's voice, people loved it.

Spoiler(ish) stuff ahead:

The opening of the film is almost a copy of Dark Knight where evryone is asking about the villain, and he's there the entire time. And holy shnikes this movie move along quickly. I have a feeling that even if the movie runs over two hours, it's going to seem like the movie flew by you.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but I'll throw it out there that 36% of rotten tomatoes guests liked POTA (which gets a 1/10 from me) while 87% of rotten tomatoes guests liked it.

I have a somewhat polar opposite opinion of Bois, as I find Burton's "Apes" to be one of the dumbest movies in cinema ever made (and a rip off of an *ahem* much better comic book 'some of you guys know what I'm talking about'). RISE, on the other hand, was great, and actually had characters with a plot, and these characters actually had that thing called "character development". No offense to Boi...like what you like (I like things others consider awful as well) but RISE in all aspects of what makes a film to certified film critics is a vastly superior movie.

Shit. I'm actually surprised anyone even thought the Burton APES was worth a rating of 3/10. Maybe I'm the only one here, but that movie is laborious to watch. But back to the crux of this website; are their any decent games other than the DK and Rampage series where you play as an ape?

Burton's Planet of the Apes was terrible. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was great.

I really want to see Rise of Planet of the Apes. The previews looked great. But this isn't the first time I've heard bad things about it. But at the same time, I hear a lot of people trash Burton's Planet of the Apes, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. So maybe I'll enjoy it. I don't have the sentimental attachment to the originals that a lot of other people did, maybe that's why I enjoyed Burton's Planet of the Apes (however I did still enjoy the original movies, don't get me wrong).

Seen the movie to, I feel your pain with a lot of things you said as well as well as the perks. Jim Gordan carried this movie through I felt because of his character being completely awesome and being the main center.

I do like Catwoman though, depending on which version because I liked the one that could actually fight like in the Batman "Hush" comic where she showed that she could take down Robin if she wanted :P In this version I didn't care for her character showing the origins of her being a prostitute.
