Street Fighter III Third Strike is a particularly grating example of this type of thing ehehdoctorfugue wrote:
Back on topic, voice music in games can be especially annoying. The first time I heard some of the music in Sega CD games, I had to turn it off. I actually yearned for the bleeps and blips of digitally-made music.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has the worst music I've ever heard. I would seriously rather listen to top 40 Country, beacause at least it's funny. Music is really important to me and I wish there were more games that would utilize some better musicians.
I like intrumental music alot. I'm a huge fan of Tortoise, Do Make Say Think, Mice Parade, HIM(the jazz/dub group, they were around way before that pop metal crap band), Tied and Tickled Trio, etc....there is a bunch more. But, there are some great bands that used to be entirely insturmental but have added vocals on the last few albums and I think it can be really cool(Do Make Say Think) or it can really be hit an miss depending on the vocalist(Mice Parde). There are some other groups(Gizzly Bear, Deerhunter) that use vocals as more of an instrument and have them all share the sound rather than overpowering it like pop music and r&b.
I'm a song writer and I write vocals.....I used to only play instrumental musc but I just can't help it anymore. I feel like most songs I write have something more direct I want to say. The music is always more important to me though and if you've got crap music the vocals don't mean anything.
