Re: Need a av receiver for all my consoles
...dude, do you realize the RF modulator is downgrading the av signal to RF anyway?
You've been comparing NES via RF to... NES via RF.

Re: Need a av receiver for all my consoles
I stated an opinion. I did not say that RF has a better connection or better quality, I said that I personally prefer it. However, the dispute was not over my setup, it was over my opinion. I have another tv that I could use without an RF modulator if I wanted to but I don't. But like I said, it is convenient for me at the moment to have things set up the way I do. I really don't make a big deal over graphics unless they are just awful. But I can see how some people can not even grasp that because these days everyone is concerned with hdmi and HD and whatever else, I honestly do not keep up with all of it.

I am with you on not liking rf for games, but who still uses the coax? Up until my top loader, I havent had anything screwed in the coax on my tv for atleast 10 years now lol.Breetai wrote: I'm not sure how RF is ever more convenient. You have to unscrew a connection (assuming you are like 95% of people in western countries and have your TV plugged into something with coaxial), screw one in, and then screw a second one in. That is three steps. PLUS, the coaxial connection is in the back of every TV I know of, so it is also in an inconvenient location.

I don't think "who does that anymore?" is a good argument for an old school gaming forum.

Re: Need a av receiver for all my consoles
I've got a ton of systems hooked up to one tv...maybe a few more than 15.

Those are two automatic AV selectors. The one on top has Y cables in each input making it take 8 consoles. Both of those output into my DVDrecorder and that goes into my TV. That's how I record all of my gameplay for youtube and crap.
Not pictured is the third AV selector for my Component devices. Xbox, Wii, Xbox 360 and my PSP TV out cable. Then I've got my ps3 and onlive hooked up with HDMI. My Saturn uses Svideo. Everything else I own is plugged into those two AV selectors pictured.
When both of the AV selectors are powered on though it will cause interference so the one with just 4 systems has my least used systems (Jaguar, TG16, 3d0 and I forget what else). Everything is powered by a few power squids so I keep that AV selector and those systems on one power squid so that they're never really turned on at the same time so there's no worry of interference.
The AV selectors ran me about $20 and the 12 Y cables ran me about $3.

My Atari 5200 and 7800 as well as the analog part of my digital cable box if I want to use my TV remote. The Atari's can be modded to SVideo but I like the novelty of the single wired four port 5200. With my HD CRT and the lower res of the 5200, its a clean signal.

Re: Need a av receiver for all my consoles
I use two of the joytech selectors for most of my old school consoles. I believe someone mentioned them earlier in the thread, however they are shown in the picture below. One is black and the other is silver (The picture is old as both are black now). I like these as they have a digital display and allow you to name each input which can be seen on the front. They limit the name to four or five characters but work great.
I also use two DJ power switchers so that each console can be individually powered on. They are also shown in the bottom of the picture.

Re: Need a av receiver for all my consoles
That's a beautiful setup coloradog1. Do you have a thread to show off your gameroom? If you don't, please make one.
I just received the joytech selector I mentioned earlier in the thread. I haven't had time yet to plug everything in and try it out. One thing I've been wondering: If I kill the power switch, will the joytech selector forget the names of all my consoles?

Re: Need a av receiver for all my consoles
I'm going to create a topic showing off the entire room. I'd be open to anyone's suggestions on hiding the cables...but as they are they're easy to manage and kind of a necessary evil. But I do love the masking tape labels, really classes the place up.@ JerryTerrifying - Your cables are a work of art! A hanging trophy showing all the consoles are hooked up.
