My Art Relates to Shooting Games!

Post by god »

I work with drawing and mixed media/collage. Most of my recent work has related to gaming in some way. These two are a commentry on my obsession with shooting games. I am interested in the interplay between gaming and real life, and the points at which the two enterprises impede on the progress of the other.

I wasn't really sure where to post this stuff, but I decided that the people in this sub-forum would appreciate the sentiment (and probably the only people who are going to pick up on the references in #2). If the mods disagree with my placement, please feel free to move it.

At the moment #1 is called "Shooter's Delight" and #2 is called "Shooter's Lament". They are both done with ink and pen on A5 Watercolour paper. I am putting them in a group exhibition which opens around Christmas (23 December I think) and they should be appearing in a local art zine called 'Danger Daze'.

I have not sold much work before and I don't feel comfortable putting prices on things (they either sell and I think, damn, that was too cheap or they don't and I think it was too expensive) so I've decided that if people are interested in these I'll be selling them by silent auction during the exhibition.

If anyone cares I can post more of my work. I guess I'll do so in another sub-forum when all my shooting game-related art has been exhausted.

Its okay. I don't rally get art for it expressive uses. I instantly saw this and thought of local band posters though. The mains thing that gets me is the way you have the person drawn, I don't really like it.

I'm interested in seeing some more. If you're going to go for that surreal B&W look, you should have more going on, make it more trippy.

Thanks for the comments guys! I usually go for a "more is more" aesthetic but I have been making an effort to be more subtle, and value my white space.

I made a larger version of "Shooter's Delight". Its about 55 x 75 cm, and is resplendent with heaps of collaged elements, scribbles and splatters. When I was installing the work, a guy commented that "Its full of little treats" referring to the hidden details in the thing. I thought that this was a very apt commentry on what I do.

The exhibition opens this Friday night. Its got the big "Shooter's Delight" plus the two from the first post, the two MK ones from my post above and another one which basically steals (ahem,,, appropriates) the cover of Transbot for the Master System.

I'll try to get a pic posted here of the work as installed when I can...

Edit, the gallery posted a pic of me installing the work
