Is there anyone who can speak to reliability of the server on any of these games? (from noise's post above)

hopefully it's KoF 96. i also don't mind downloading Fatal Fury and Sham sho. :)

Like I said, I'm not really against the demo. But seeing as how we have a big list of full games to pick from, just seeing if y'all think it's worth playing a demo instead.
I want to say yes but probably no. KoF XIII is absolutely amazing but if you are like me or Sevin or 7K, the huge roster (30 characters) is a big part of the draw. Team Fatal Fury is bad ass and a true staple of the franchise, but I've never been a big fan of K' and the other K's, either as characters or their movesets.

But mine might be the minority opinion. Anyone else?
I used to main K', Kula and Maxima in KOFXI. I love all of 'em.

And Team Fatal Fury is great for beginners.

Yes, we need server/netcode/lobby info on the Neo Geo games.

okay, after reading through like a dozen reviews that all glossed over the online functionality, I finally found this:

Finally, there is the Online Mode. This tab allows players to choose Quick Match, Search Matches, Create Matches or Check Invitations. There are no lobbies or ranked matches in these games. In the Search Matches menu, the player can choose search parameters such as Ping, Region and Player Side. Ping can be set as Any, 5 bars only or any range between 0 and 5 bars, i.e. 1-5, 2-5, etc. The region can be set as either JPN or ENG. Once the criteria are filled in and the search function is ready to start, the player can choose to play the game while the search is conducted. I’ve found that my games are more quickly connected through the quick matching service; still, the choice is nice.

There seems to be mixed reviews on the netcode. I’ve played roughly 20 matches of Samurai Shodown, some via wireless but most through a wired connection and I’ve had nothing but great connections. I spent 30 minutes getting acclimated to the game again before playing any online games. So far, I’ve had 1 instance of stutter during the knock out animation at the end of a round. For comparison, my PS3 is connected via a wired connection with forwarded ports and my connection generally runs 20 down/4 up.

so it sounds to me like basically instead of setting a lobby we'd all just be sending each other invites for the NeoGeo games.

We could "lobby up" in IRC, announce results and who is ready to fight again and the what not, ins and outs, and what have yous.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

That first page link is broken. You can still get to it from mribbit, though. The link is on a more recent page of that thread.

I like how it's a scavenger hunt to find the IRC.

Anyway, I'm still fine with play KOF or NeoGeo games without lobbies. It's slightly more a pain in the ass for me to be on IRC and PSN at the same time, since I use the same monitor for PS3 and PC. But I'd be fine with it.

EDIT: is there a good free Android IRC app?
