Quick and Easy VMU Question
So I got a Dreamcast today and was wondering if you could use the VMU outside of the controller for PDA-ish purposes. I heard that you can do it for taking minigames on the go (Portable Chao Garden, for example), but I don't think either of my games (Soul Calibur and Jet Grind Radio) do this. I set the time on it via the DC menu, but I can't seem to find a way to turn it on. I don't think the batteries are dead, I heard that when they are, the VMU makes a loud beeping noise when being used and the DC is the only thing giving it power. Am I missing a stupidly obvious button, or could it be that my batteries are dead *and* the speaker is broken?
Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question

I also rent and sell PS2, Wii and XBOX softmod-kits and I collect DVD movies let me know what you have.
Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question
You probably already know, but it takes two CR2032 batteries. If the batteries are good, it turns on immediately after putting the batteries in. After you set the clock, you can turn it "on" and "off" by pressing the "Sleep" button. I'd say trying reinserting the batteries. If that turns it on, but the Sleep button doesn't work, the button might be bad.
Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question
Might want to check the batteries -- they are notorious for not lasting long. As stated, 2 X CR2032 type. Also, the Sleep button is the on/off switch, and I know Soul Calibur has no content to download. Many Capcom fighting games do, and most Sega titles as well.GameMasterGuy wrote:So I got a Dreamcast today and was wondering if you could use the VMU outside of the controller for PDA-ish purposes. Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question
Alright, I'll order some batteries off of eBay- they're extremely cheap, I can get 50 of them for under $10, shipping included. I remembered reading that when the batteries are dead and the VMU is plugged into the controller acting as a standard memory card, it made a loud, annoying beeping noise until you changed the batteries, but I guess this must have been wrong.

I don't remember my VMUs beeping when their batteries died and buying cr2032s in bulk is the way to go!

Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question
All of mine do with either no batteries or dead batteries. When you first start up your DC with a VMU with non-working batteries, it will do a continuous beep for 1-2 seconds, then you won't hear it again until you restart the DC.synbiosfan wrote:I don't remember my VMUs beeping when their batteries died

Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question
Ah, thought that was normal. That must be the beep I heard about; I thought it kept on beeping until you turned the console off. Thank you!spiritplx wrote:All of mine do with either no batteries or dead batteries. He was talking about when the batteries are dying as a warning, not normal use.spiritplx wrote:All of mine do with either no batteries or dead batteries. Re: Quick and Easy VMU Question
Some of my VMUs still have the plastic protecting the battery from use. I should just pop all the batteries out, never use them due to the reputation of short portable gaming life. If I really want to raise the creatures in Sonic, the Gamecube/GBA version is better.
I actually like the beep, an audio indication the controller has a good connection.
