It is TOTALLY possible to get an AES for $100, if you know where to look. :)
Is the neo region free?
Yes. The games will display the language of the region of your console. A lot of games have language settings, so you can just change them to English if you have a JP console.

On the AES, you can also install a UNIBIOS (custom bios) that lets you choose the region of your system and gives you Game Shark-like cheat abilities, but that is a bit expensive.

And if so, where should I be looking?
Japan. Yes, you will pay shipping, but if you do it by sea it isn't that bad at all. $100 will take time, but it is possible.

Yeah, Sonic Wings 2/Aero Fighters 2 is very nice. I have also had Sonic Wings Special on the Saturn, which is fun. I haven't had part 3 either, so I can't comment on it.

The board came in and works, I just forgot to post here... Now you can see the two babies in my current living arrangement.

After I move, one of the things I am going to do a full restoration of the Neo. Paint and CP at the very least. And I do apologize, I broke the cardinal rule and posted a cellphone picture. Atleast I had a 1k on it.

Sadly it is a Mame cab since the original monitors had to go and getting replacements was alot more than I paid for the device to begin with. Right now when you turn it on it loads Bubble Bobble on that side and nothing on the other, soon it will load Virtua Tennis on both sides.

At least you have one to work on, because I guarantee a lot people do not know what that is.

I saw it at an auction and flipped. I had not seen one in person before and paid $125 for it. I almost got a Wyvern Wings machine aswell - it was candy styled and I have not seen another since. It went for $350, but at the time that was too much money, and no more space in the truck. Sadly it stopped working not too long after - one of the monitors had water damage. It has been a blast owning it, and if I could get another I would.

My only gripe is that it only has 2 action buttons per player. If it had 3 or 4 it would be the best cab ever. 2 makes it REALLY hard to find games for, especially 4 player games. Which is why Virtua Tennis is going into it.

So I just got word from christoph that my CMVS will be shipping next week. In prep of kicking off some Neo Geo goodness, I slapped together this custom Shockbox art for my multicart :P

I'm not sure how I feel about the multicarts :?

I plan to stay original and only get dedicated carts, and kits when possible. Here is an example of what I just bought that I REALLY wanted

I can understand your concern with the multicart, but I wanted immediate access to a large library of awesome NEO games the day the CMVS comes in

Of course I have every intent of picking up those games that are special to me (Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, etc), so purist can keep their pitch forks at ease 8)

*The cart plays great, too - the MVS at my work has one in it!

Just thought I'd chime in here.

I bought an AES about a year ago and have a handful of common games (Samurai Shodown 2, Alpha mission 2, Art of fighting 2, Magician Lord, etc.) and as a child of the '80s, I absolutely love the fact that own something that I once thought to be unobtainable. It's probably the favorite thing in my collection. That said, I'd trade it for a nice MVS candy cab in a heartbeat.

Space is a big consideration, but it'd be worth the headache for all the benefits of having a nice MVS in the basement. Sure, there's a steep buy-in, but I feel like I'd make it back quick enough with the savings on the games. Heck, I'd be happy with a multi-cart while I worked on picking up legit copies. Plus, real arcade sticks and buttons.
