Metal Slug 4 is a really fun game! It's way hard. I think I had 40 continues at the end of the game. That means I died at least 117 times. In the arcade I would have spent between $10 and $20 to see that ending screen, depending on how greedy the local arcade proprietor was.
Anyway, this game gets my usual Metal Slug props: Excellent artwork, humor, controls, and music. As an extra bonus, I like how restrained they were with the zombie sections after Metal Slug 3.
Metal Slug 5 I did not like nearly so much. The difficulty was kinda wacky - I only had 28 continues, almost all of them in the last two levels. The rest of the game was too easy and there were too many instances where the pacing was weird. The random isometric platforming wasn't much fun, either. Still not a terrible game. A sub-par Metal Slug had to happen sooner or later.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

[quote="alienjesus"]Full list:
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space: Episode 205: What's up Beelzebub? PC
Avenging Spirit 3DS VC
Total: 75
Sam & Max episode 205 had a lot of interesting stuff going for it but I was slightly let down by it overall. It had a lot of returning characters who I liked from other episodes, the last episode ended up on somewhat of a cliffhanger and some of the puzzle ideas were quite cool. However, in the end the returning characters were under-used (I know I've said before I worry about too many injokes, but here they deliberately went for that and still missed the mark), the cliffhanger was resolved immediately with a complete lack of anything interesting happening (they could;ve had the starting puzzle be a way to escape the situation, but instead it was a pretty boring puzzle on the same street as ever), and the puzzles were pretty badly signposted and took a hint from the classic 'thinking outside the box outside the box' school of logic from early adventure games. I've only ever had to get hints to solve one or two puzzles in the sam and max seasons up til this episode, but in this one I genuinely had to just outright look up some answers, including the one for the final puzzle, making the season end with a bit of a fizzle instead of a bang. It wasn't the worst episode (that award goes to episode 103 or episode 202), but it's certainly a contender. Overall season 2 was still fun, but it wasn't as good as Season 1. I hope The Devil's Playhouse is a return to form.
Avenging Spirit was a fun little arcade game boy game. The possession mechanic (where you possess the enemies of the game to progress) was interesting and unique, and I loved how each and every enemy felt truly different. Unfortunately, most of them were pretty useless, so you tended to stick to a select few. The way you have to desperately scramble for a new body after your current one dies did make it so you ended up trying out all sorts of enemies though, so the mechanic was well done overal. The level design however was a little weak, often not very clear where to go. The difficulty was a little uneven, but certainly challenging at the end, but infinite continues and the ability to keep keys and other items when you died made it so it wasnt horrible. Overall it's a decent game I'd recommend giving a go, but not one you should go out of your way to play.

OK so wow. I've had Third Strike for a while on PS2, but I never really got that into it. I never really saw why everyone seemed to love III. SF2 is a huge favorite of mine, and SF4 feels a lot like 2. But the past couple nights I've been playing III (offline) to sort of train for our Thursday night fight club that's coming up later this week. First off, it's crazy to see such a completely different roster than I'm used to. Besides Chun-Li (who I main) and Ken/Ryu, there's not a lot of familiars in the crowd other than the handful that carried over to SF4. And it's super weird to see all these bizarre characters like Twelve for instance. They almost feel like Darkstalkers or JoJo's kind of off weirdo characters. Pretty awesome. Online Edition looks amazing. And I love how customizable the settings are visually. And I hate to admit it, but I'm glad Trophies are present (unlike in SSF2THDR). I must say, I'm a bit surprised to find that I apparently really like III a lot. I found the controls spot on -- I had no trouble learning Specials, etc. And in a way, I feel like III is everything I like about II plus all the stuff I'm glad they added to IV. Just such a cool game. I'm glad I put some effort into it. Anyway, the last battle against Gill killed me thumbs, so probably enough for tonight. And then tomorrow night I'm probably gonna do some training that sevin suggested to really try to get myself in shape for you guys that have played this way more than me. Oh by the way, my rank was only D++

I finally got around to beating VVVVVV. Gets a bit tough towards the end, but no mere game can best me!

Modern Warfare 3 on PC. Kind of disappointing and way too short. I enjoyed the previous two much more.

Re: Games Beaten : 2011
I finally got around to completing Fallout 3. Well the main quests at least. Thought I would be able to go back and do the other quests I missed but Bethesda insisted that I splash 800 points on Broken Steel. Did that and now just going to all the areas I never explored. Put 50 hours into the main game but there is still so much to do. And it's fun that I am level 20 and can just blitz through the side-quests. This game takes so much effort/time but it is SO rewarding. Tempting to get Fallout: New Vegas but have so many other games to play first. Don't even mention Skyrim. Won't get to that for a year or two! I think after this I'll play something linear.
Currently playing Splinter Cell: Blacklist

vs.
Raiden isn't as good as Snake, but the story was so much longer/weirder than the first game's! The gameplay was better as well IMO.
At least we can both agree MGS3 is better than either of them, right?
People bitch and whine about disliking Raiden and fail to see the big picture. He starts off as a young, inexperienced rookie and at the game's conclusion, he becomes mature and a more complete person and you get to watch him grow and fully develop as a character, unlike Snake in MGS1. Don't get me wrong, Snake's a cool character and all, and part of the reason for Raiden's existence in general was to show Snake through someone else's perspective, and it made MGS2 an interesting experience. People talk about how whiney Raiden is, but he's just acting like any other person would when being in such a dangerous environment. It's his very first mission, you can't expect him to act any other way, though that wears off over time because, like I said, he changes mentally as the game goes on.
My point is, people who hate MGS2 just because of Raiden either fail to see the big picture or are just picky. Even if you simply flat out hate the character, there's so many god damn redeeming qualities about the game that I fail to see how Raiden ruins the game. The story only gets better and better as the game goes on (albeit a little confusing at times) and the gameplay is just great. It took everything about MGS1 and made it better. It might be my favorite Metal Gear Solid game, but I've been playing MGS3 a hella lot lately (trying to do a no alert, no kills run) and it's becoming a sort of tie between the two. MGS3's slow menu system can be a bit of a chore at times and it's much slower paced than MGS2, though I think I enjoy the story more. The bosses in MGS3 certainly are cheesy characters though. They would fit better in the G.I. Joe cartoon more than an MGS game. Still, MGS3 is an amazing experience that everyone must play.
Also fuck people who hate MGS4, but that's an entirely different discussion.
