With emulation and piracy (for download content), these systems can have a retro future. Otherwise, nope. Not only is the hardware faulty, but all of the download content will be no longer available.

Flake wrote:I see the PS3 maybe making the jump to a 'retro' console one day, but I do not know about the Xbox 360. Too much of what makes that machine stand out is dependent on constant support from XBL. Without XBL, it really just seems like an underpowered computer of shoddy build quality.
If any system on the market today looks like a shoo-in to be a retro classic, it will be the Wii. Good, durable hardware. A backwards compatible successor already on the horizon. A stable of games that (let's be honest) have never depended on being on the graphical cutting edge to give them their charm.
I agreed completely with this post.

I honestly cannot imagine this generation becoming retro or collectable. The entire generation just seems to be designed for obsolescence. The downloadable content is only as good as the media it is saved on. The online games have a corporate egg timer losing grains as we discuss this.
Most of the popular games are replaced by cyclical sequels. I imagine that in ten years I will have less than 20 games that I just cannot toss, and most of those are available on PC.

History. You can no longer access Xbox Live on the original Xbox. The current online networks for 360 and PS3 will be shut down when the next generation of consoles comes out.noiseredux wrote:how do you know?Inazuma wrote:all of the download content will be no longer available.
