Re: Batman: Arkham City
There are a few things I miss from Arkham Asylum. I miss the triple Batarang and triple Batclaw. They got rid of those. I loved using the triple Batclaw to yank a floor out from under a pair of guys and watch them fall to the ground unconscious. Kind of miss the awesome Scarecrow stages too. Also, while there is a lot more challenge and creativity in getting the collectibles in Arkham City, there's way too many of them. Arkham Asylum kept it to a much more manageable number. I also don't like having trophies/achievements for Nightwing, Robin and Catwoman because a lot of the combat challenge rooms are largely the same for each character and it gets tedious having to redo them for each character. I feel like these are all nitpicks though
Other than those points, I'd say this game is way better. Combat rooms pissed me off in Arkham Asylum. They are much more fun and manageable in Arkham City. I always said that Arkham Asylum's combat system was fresh and original, but unrefined. I've think they've largely addressed that. There are other, more subtle improvements as well. You'll notice that thugs don't talk as much smack in this game as they did in AA, which is how it should be. They're facing the freaking Batman! In fact, if you pay attention, you'll noticed that in some combat encounters some of the thugs will actually run away from you and hide. I love that!
I don't really see why anyone would complain about the sandbox nature of the game. It's much, much smaller than your average, sandbox game. This is like a sliver of how big a modern Grand Theft Auto game probably is. I personally hate wide open, sandbox games for the most part before I generally prefer a more focused, guided gaming experience. That's why I've no interest in Skyrim, but Arkham City is like sandbox lite. It's much more focused than a typical sandbox game which I like
One thing that bugs me in both games though is how some thugs will actually dodge your Batclaw and Batarangs. Come on! They're stupid thugs. They shouldn't be able to pull off shit like that. It's cool when the ninja chicks do it, but not common fodder thugs

Beat the game over the weekend, such an awesome game. Can anyone give me a clue on how to get the riddler trophy under the bridge in The Bowery? The one with 6 question marks? I just don't get it. Also, I can find the riddle: "Can you look to see where the madness began." Or something like that.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
Re: Batman: Arkham City
I just thought I'd warn everybody. After beating the PC version to my satisfaction I traded it on Goozex for about 850 points, a better deal than elsewhere. A couple of weeks later the guy I traded it to messaged me saying that the game wouldn't let him activate it. We've been back and forth trying to troubleshoot for about a week now and I finally got him to email WB about it. They responded that they will not allow a used game to be activated on a new PC, period, it is locked to one Live account F-O-R-E-V-E-R. Unbelievable. Now, just because I actually want this game to be playable on SOMEBODY's computer I'm trying to figure out how to get that exact copy back from this guy through the Goozex system, and I will have to buy points to give to him if that is even possible.
That pretty much does it folks, it's retro games only for me from now on. This is going to start happening more and more until it will be impossible to buy used games. I hope these companies all burn and sink into the sea.

Re: Batman: Arkham City
Sorry to raise yet another thread from the dead, but I've tried playing the PC version a few times. It's fine with mouse and keyboard. When I try using my logitech controller though, everything is fine until I actually get into the game. That's when problems start. Initially, the up and down directions were reversed on the left analog. Now they are completely unresponsive and I can only move left and right. I haven't really touched the game in quite a while because of that and couldn't find a good fix on google. Fortunately, I have other titles to keep me busy, but I'd love to know why I have those controller problems
Any advice?

Re: Batman: Arkham City
It might just be pad incompatibility. I played the whole thing through with the Xbox 360 controller and it was perfect- actually better than the mouse and keyboard.Gamerforlife wrote:Sorry to raise yet another thread from the dead, but I've tried playing the PC version a few times. Agreed. Played all the way through with a pirated copy of the game and a wired 360 controller. Nothing out of the ordinary went wrong.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to go this route. I only have a wireless though, and those don't seem to work without an extra device. So I'll have to get an official 360 wired controller instead of the logitech one I've been using with my other PC games. Kind of annoying, but that's okay.pvt_awol wrote:Fuzzy_Cthulhu wrote:

Re: Batman: Arkham City
Use X360ce. It acts as a wrapper so that your gamepad appears as an x360 controller to the game. You just configure your pad buttons using x360ce's exe and then put the dlls and inis in the game folder (the one that contains the game's exe).Gamerforlife wrote:Yeah, I guess I'll have to go this route. I have a cheap chinese made gamepad (that doesn't even have a brand name) that used to have problems with lots of modern games with regard to the analog sticks, but x360ce solves the problem in almost all of the games (some games require you to include x360ce's dinput8 dll in the folder, so that it hides your gamepad as a directinput device). It's also particularly useful in games that only support x360 controllers.
