The original Metal Gear Solid was great, and at its time, there were similar-ish games on the market. MGS stands out because it had its gameplay down to a science, and every little detail was done perfectly. MGS uniqe because I have never seen a game made as well as this one.

It's not a PS1 exclusive, though.

Er, maybe it is? Does the Gamecube remake count?

With the exception of YDKJ, which is on PC and Mac, the other quoted titles were available for Saturn, I believe, so they do not meet the Playstation exclusive standing.

As far as I'm concerned, no it's not. They changed a lot, it's not the same game and doesn't have the same historical relevance.

Personally, I always liked the original Tenchu's stealth based gameplay better than MGS. It gave you more options for taking out your enemies, more maneuverable environments and a better control setup. Tenchu came out first too, which is worth mentioning. Though MGS had a lot of other awesome stuff going for it, not the least of which being its awesome story and cinematic style.

Spyro the Dragon was pretty unique for a character and story but its a great platformer too.
